What is a breach of Confidentiality?

Breaches of confidentiality are usually unintentional. Breaches involve inappropriate disclosure of confidential information via conversations, fax transmissions, electronic or voice mail communications, written documentation, "loaning" computer access codes, and other methods. An example of a breach may be telling job related "war stories" that involve a specific patient.

When in doubt about what is considered confidential, or may be a violation of the XXXXX confidentiality policies, contact your supervisor, your Human Resources Department, or the XXXXX Confidentiality Committee.
