Supermarine Spitfire
The Spitfire is probably the most famous fighter of
World War II, primarily because of its exploits during the Battle
of Britain. A piston-engined aircraft, the Spitfire, in its various
marks, was a match for any of its opponents at the beginning of
the war, and remained a formidable fighter throughout the conflict.
Supermarine Spitfire XIVE, The aircraft illustrated
is machine D of 130 Squadron (code letters AP). Camoflage and
markings are standard for the period of the Allied landings in
Normandy in June 1944.
Supermarine Seafire, The pictured aircraft has a paint
scheme taken from a Seafire III in the Pacific. Note that the
roundels contain no red, to avoid confusion with the Japanese
hinomaru marking.
