The
zone of the Strait of Magellan is located in the austral end of the
American continent. The sector includes the Straits of the same name,
all the channels and fiords which they surround the peninsula by Brunswick,
including the sine Otway, Riesco island and Skyring sine (western
side of the peninsula) and the Magdalena Island, the National Park
Pali-Aike until the coastal edge of the light of Dungeness End (Eastern
side). The tourist macrozone of the Strait of Magellan takes to the
name of the Portuguese navigator Fernando de Magallanes, discoverer
of this austral passage in 1520. The Strait of Magellan has permanent
importance for interoceanic navigation and the inner sea communicationses.
It separates Earth the American continent of the Fire, its length
is of 560 km from the Dungeness Light to its western mouth where it
is united to the South Pacific Ocean and Atlantic, and in addition
is the front door to the Antarctic continent. It at the moment serves
the merchant ships that make traffic of cabotage with the center of
the country, ships of line which they transport import merchandises,
scientific ships with operations in Antarctica, great cruises of tourism,
and ships of fishing fleets that operate in their zone of influence.
The city of End Sands is the capital of the region of Magallanes and
Chilean Antarctica. This city, in addition to being the neuralgic
center of most of the routes of access to the austral zone of Chile,
is also the Capital ofthe Chilean Patagonia. Attractive the tourist
ones of this macrozone are diverse: The city of End Sands and in its
neighborhoods emphasizes the colonies of pingüinos, the Bulnes
Fort and varied circuits of trekking in areas of native forest; in
the environs of the locality of Verde River, famous by his particular
beauty and its variety of birds, there is ample rural supply and of
agroturismo; in the Eastern area of the macrozone Strait of Magellan
one is the National Park PaliAike, the Dungeness light point of contact
with the Atlantic Ocean, old shipwrecks and the pioneering locality
of San Gregorio. |
