The following gamers would like to see
WotC/Fluid port Master Tools to the MacOS:

a MacOS port is a great idea for those gamers who've been left out of the great WoTC electronic products because they weren't Mac compatible and it's extra revenue for WoTC if they actually get in gear and do the port.

One sentence: "Strike while the iron is hot." The release of Baldur's Gate and anouncements of BGII and Icewind Dale for the Macintosh have no doubt generated (or rekindled) a lot of recognition for the Dungeons & Dragons, Forgotten Realms and Wizards of the Coast trademarks, not to mention role-playing games in general (computer or otherwise). What better way to capitalize on this momentum and capture potential sales of other D&D products to the growing market of Macintosh users than providing them with the same tools as Windows users?

I already bought the PHB, and I'm not only disapointed, I'm pissed. No, I dont want to buy a copy. I want it free, just like the windows users get, and I want it yesterday. 3D game developers have already figured it out. Don't exclude the Mac users be ause it is a much larger market than you realize. Putting out a product like the Character Generator for windows only is narrowminded and unfair. I know WotC is bases in Microshaft land, but come on now, there are other systems. like I'm gonna go buy a emulator, yeah right. Get real.

Making a product that is usable by 100% of the tabletop roleplaying market is FAR better than making a product that is only useful to less than 70%. Despite the Computer Gaming numbers, I've discovered in my 20 years of roleplaying that the platform use Windows:Dos/Macintosh/Unix/other) is actually pretty fairly split... in recent years that split's grown wider, but all in all, the point still stands. Building the Master Tools and Character Generator for as many platforms as possible not only makes sens , but it makes GOOD sense. Why not let everyone who WANTS to play with it, PLAY WITH IT!?!

A character generator should be relatively easy to port (it's not like you have to worry about 3D cards, internet play, or any of the other typical hurdles that slow down game-ports...) If WOTC doesn't decide to port it itself or through a specialized out it, maybe they could allow some of their in-house Mac supporters, such as James Wyatt and Sean Reynolds, some time off to create a Hypercard equivalent (it wouldn't have to be as pretty as the original, as long as most of the features are there).

It's simply amazing to see that WOTC could be so shortsighted as to neglect the mac audience. I think as a company you need to get out of those musty offices for a bit and look out into the real world. See who your audience IS and respond accordingly. Por ing a database should only take a couple of weeks at the most. But after single-handedly killing most of the miniatures market (I was a collector), I really don't expect to see good business decisions from Wizards :(

Due to lack of free time, but easy access to a computer at work and in the home office. I would find a computer based campaign aid very useful in setting up a 3rd edition game. In fact, I doubt I'd even purchase the new rules set unless an offical softwar aid were available... I just don't have the time to work it out on paper anymore. Now, if the PC crowd get such a tool and we Mac users are deemed unworthy of it, then I'll go use another game system completely. Port to Mac OS. Development under multiple environments helps you find bugs. The more tools you use to create a program the better the program will be.

I have lots of Mac users in my group and we would sure like to have these tools. And what about Linux!!! Maybe WoTC doesn't have to do this, but a third party could get the rights to do a port. Let's hope this happens. And while were doing petitions, I'd ike a petition to reinstate the Forgotten Realms OOP CD-ROM project. Axeing that was b#$@s@#&! IMHO. Maybe enough votes would get them to reinstate it. That's enought ranting and tangents...

I too, second the motion for creating a Mac version of the Master tools CD. I would strongly recommend producing the tool as a Hybrid CD, able to be used on both PC's and Macs. If SSI can do it with Imperialism 1 and 2, and Blizzard can do it with Starcraft, then there are no reasons why Wizard's can't.

There's really no reason why the Master rules can't be designed to work on both platforms... that is, unless FLUID doesn't have much experience with programming. If FLUID can't branch out, then perhaps WotC should choose another company that will be willing to increase the sales of all RPG Computer Accessories by 10%, at least.
