Mark can't believe his
luck
MARK Bautista has become a household name ever since
he landed as finalist in the "Star for a Night" search
last year.
"Hindi nga po ako makapaniwala na may ganitong
suwerteng darating sa akin," said the 20-year-old pop
singer who had to board a cargo ship from his hometown
in Cagayan de Oro just to join "SFAN."
"Hindi ko po ini-expect na magiging ganito kabilis ang
takbo ng career ko," added Mark, who is under
management contract with the Viva Artists Agency,
headed by Veronique del Rosario-Corpus.
Mark's popularity got a big boost when he was chosen
to be pop star Sarah Geronimo's partner in the music
video of the latter's phenomenal hit carrier single,
"Forever's Not Enough," by Vehnee and Doris Saturno.
From that MTV, the public took notice of not only his
good vocal quality, but his charming chinito eyes as
well.
"Salamat naman po at napansin nila ako," Mark humbly
said.
And so, not long after that MTV stint with Sarah, Viva
Records decided to release his very own self-titled
debut album, which contains 12 carefully chosen cuts
like "Ngayon at Kailanman," "Ako'y Maghihintay" (a
duet with Sarah), "Kapag Ako'y Kailangan," "Another
Chance," "Sayang Naman," "One Girl," "Lahat
sa Buhay
Ko" and his version of well-loved hits "Will You Still
Love Me Tomorrow," "Out Here on My Own," "Lost Without
Your Love" and "Power of Love."
Mark's album is now out in the market with the song,
"Baliw," as carrier single.
In line with the album's promo, the singer will mount
shows at SM North EDSA today, Feb. 6, and SM Manila
tomorrow, Feb. 7. He, too, will be part of the Baguio
leg of the "Popstars on Tour" on Feb. 21, and "Sarah:
To Love Her More" at the Aliw Theater on Feb. 27.
This year, the up-and-coming pop prince gets the
biggest break in his budding showbiz career as he was
recently signed up by ABS-CBN 2 to topbill a new soap
opera with fellow Viva artists Sarah and Mikel Campos,
and Michael Agassi.
The yet-untitled soap opera shall start airing before
the end of the month.
Incidentally, Mark and Sarah engaged in a showdown of
sorts with "Star in a Million" champion Erik Santos
and runner-up Sheryn Regis in last Sunday's "ASAP
Mania."
That particular episode welcomed Mark and company to
the ABS-CBN fold.
"Sobrang proud nga po ang mga kababayan ko sa Cagayan
de Oro. Text sila nang text sa akin. 'Yung parents ko,
everyday tumatawag to make sure na okay ako rito sa
Maynila," he said.
Aside from the ABS soap, Mark also will make a splash
on the big screen via his film debut, Viva Films'
upcoming release, "Annie B.," starring no less than
Jolina Magdangal, Jordan Herrera and Dingdong Dantes
under the direction of Louie Ignacio.
