THE GOLFER
By Darryl McCollum
Opening:  We see a golfer center stage addressing his tee shot.  The Choir loft is a golf Gallery.  There are two people holding John 3:16 signs.
Announcer: Well, here we are at the beautiful 18th tee of Augusta.  The Masters could hinge on this shot.  Chip Shot, this years top money winner is up by 1 stroke and it all comes down to this, looks like he's chosen a 3 wood (Golfer begins back swing). (At mid-back swing the golfer stops. He turns to face the crowd.  Then addresses the crowd.)
Golfer:  O.K.  That's enough.  I can't take it anymore.  What is with these JOHN 3:16 signs?  I see them at almost every tee, around every green and strewn down every fairway.  I just gotta know what does it mean.
Announcer: This is unprecedented; Chip has just stopped the Masters.
Golfer:  Hey you two, (the crowd looks at each other) yeah, you with the signs come here, I want to talk to you. (The sign holders come forward.)  What does that sign mean.
Sign Holder 1:  The sign refers to a bible verse.
Golfer: I can tell that much, but which one?
Sign Holder 2:  For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.  So that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Announcer cues golf Gallery clap.)
Golfer:  (golfer turns to look at crowd, then back to sign holders) AND?
Sign Holder 1:  That's it.  The verse points out the depth of God's love for humanity.
Sign Holder 2:  It shows that God gave us the greatest gift of all, everlasting life!
Golfer:  So, I'm going to live forever?
Sign Holder 1: Well, not that easily and not here on earth.
Sign Holder 2:  You have to believe that Jesus, God's son, died on the cross to forgive all your transgressions.
Golfer: Forgive Transgression?  Is that anything like a course marshal allowing a free drop?
Announcer:  You know it's a good thing that kid knows how to swing a golf club. I think he is a few balls short of a full bucket. (Gallery clap).
Sign Holder 1:  (realizing the last statement is accurate, takes a different tact) If you want to put it that way, yeah.  Think of your life as one big golf tournament.  Some holes you do great, some holes you end up in a bunker.  Jesus is the ultimate course Marshal he can give relief in any situation. God sent him to teach others how to Marshal in his way.
Sign Holder 2:  (catching on) That's right, only when God sent him to earth, the gallery didn't like the way he changed the rules.  Some of them got together and put him to death on a cross.  What they didn't know was that was God's plan all along.  Three days later Jesus arose.  He went to Heaven and now has the best view of the course that there is.
Sign Holder 1:  Right.  From there, he can forgive even the worst swing. The verse on our sign just reminds us that if we believe that Jesus forgives us we can be saved and live forever with him up in heaven. (The Golfer starts thinking long and hard, he puts down his club and starts to walk off.)
Announcer:  Chip where are you going?
Golfer:  This is the Master's and after hearing them I don't think anyone can compete with Jesus for that title.  I'm going home to pray. (The sign holders shake hands, the gallery claps.)
Announcer: What are you going to pray for?
Golfer:  With everyone in heaven living forever, it must be a crowded place, so I'm going to pray for a standing tee time when I get there. (Gallery begins to clap, then in unison says HUH?)  Black out.
