The Pumpkin

Look at that pumpkin, just over there
He looks at me with a frightful glare.
He watches me and I watch him
His fiery glow comes out from within.

His hollowed out eyes, they just stare
His evil grin comes from nowhere.
Where does his smile come from? I wonder
In the background I hear a clash of thunder.

Looks like rain, I say to him
He only stares and continues to grin.
I sigh and continue to read my book
Still aware of his unchanging look.

Uncomfortable, I look to him to say
Cant you look the other way?
But just as the words leave my mouth
More thunder comes in from the south.

Nary another being in sight
The pumpkins candle is my only light.
Up above, the night is black
Not a single star to cut me some slack.

The pumpkin laughs, sensing my worry
Off to the side I hear something scurry.
Voices whisper in the wind
All the evils that they have sinned.

I killed someone, Ill kill again
My current death toll is three hundred-ten.
At the sight of blood, I get excited
My beauty, to my house you are invited.

I sense the chill upon your spine
Wrapped up in chains, youd look divine.
Come over to me, closer now
Feel my blade upon your brow.

Yet another voice teases and taunts
It tells me exactly what it wants.
Come to me and Ill show you a good time
To death youll go, when next the clock chimes.

Stronger and stronger the unrelenting winds gust
They bring up figures from the dust.
As ever, the pumpkin brightly glows
Only stronger, the more the wind blows.

Branches of trees swiver and sway
All the warmth is completely gone away.
Haunting shadows in the sand
Come from some other-worldly land.

I look around and they surround me
Their dead bodies smiling with glee.
They have me now, there is no escape
The pumpkin sits by, he just smiles in wait.

I am terrified, all I can do is scream
My fright only further energizes his gleam.
I see blood flowing behind his eyes
He smiles more- the more he horrifies.

The voices get louder, I fall to my knees
I cry and cry while I beg out my plea.
I look over to the pumpkin head
And I see his eyes, they wish me dead.

My legs gather and I run to the river
Reaching the banks, my body starts to quiver.
The entire surface is frozen with ice
Behind me the voices dont make me think twice.

I dart across on unsure feet
Then I slip- the river and I meet.
I crash through the top
The sudden cold nearly makes my heart stop.

Closer, closer, closer they come
Inside my head I am screaming, Run!
From the edge, the dead bodies call
My body temperature continues to fall.

In the newspaper, someone has read
In the river, a girl was found dead.
And up at the house, all the while
All the innocent pumpkin does- is smile.
