[Below you can also see the picture] Usually this was done with pharaons, their relativs and persons with high social status and of course rich people. So... about the process :
the corpse was lied on special stone table and it was riped up and cleaned (brains were removed through the nose). Then the body was put into natron so it could dry for 40 days. Afterwards, when the mummy's wrapping begun, it lasted for about 15 days. The body had to be tied very strongly so it could keep its form (it was very important). Hundreds of metres of cloth was used in about 20 layers of shrouds and bandages. If some part of the body did rot and fall off or when nobody saw it it was eaten by a jackal, the embalmers replaced it or with wood or with cloth. There also were many amulets put between the bandages. These had to protest with their magical forses. All organs that could cause decay were put in special jugs. In the jug with a man's head there was hepar, in the one with jackal's head there was stomach, in the one with falcon's head - gut, in the one with baboon's head - lungs. Of what did the mummy consist? Of the body (the mummy itself), then it was put into a inner coffin that was made in the shape of the body, afterwards it was put into outer coffin that was made from wood and gilded. Heavy don't you think? Well, this isn't the end of the ritual. Now this whole thing had to be burried. This is how it happened... (the pyramid or later the tomb's place was alraedy ready, the building of it was begutn when the pharaon told to or when he begun to rule). The dead pharaon was brought over the river on the holy boat to his tomb. This boat was 45 m long and narrow, perfect to drive over the Nile. Then all the priests and mourners brought the ciffin to the pyramid. That's about all for now. Of course there are many more details but for that I would need much more space and time :)

Herodot about traditions of Ancient Egyptians
The traditions of egyptians and all their lifestyle isn't the same as in the other countries (other nations). Wemen there go to the market, buy and sell, while men sit at home and weave. Men carry their packs on their heads but wemen - on their shoulders. The sons don't have to support their families, daughters have to do it, weather they want it or not. In other places the priests grow their hair long but in Egypt they shave it. In other places the relatives of the dead cut their hair (because of mourning)but the egyptians, who shaved their heads now let it (hair) grow! In other places people and cattle live in different houses but in Egypt they live together. They puddle paste with legs but clay - with hands. Each man has 2 dressings but woman only 1. They write and calculate from right to left. They always wear very clean clothes from flax.
Joung people give way and moove aside when they meet older people. They also get up when older people come in. They say hallo like this - they bow and put their hands to their knees.
