| Life after death... |
| Egyptians truly believed that death is not the end of their lifes. Those of you who did see movie "Mummy" might remember the sentence : "Death is only the begining!" And so it was in reality, people thaught that when they bodies die, their spirits fly away and begin their jorney to the kingdom of mighty god Oziris. Some of them managed to get there but some of them...did not. People believed that their spirits first come to god Oziris and he desides if this one will pass the "test"or not. How he knew that? Well, egyptians believed that there their heart was put on the scales. On one side there was a mans heart, on the other side there was a feather. If the heart was lighter then the feather then the man did pass to the kingdom of Oziris but if not, then he was eaten by a beast! Sometimes it was a little different. If the severe judge Oziris decided that the spirit has yet to do some things on Earth, then he sent it back and here we discover the idea of mummification and mummys. There was a possibility (at least egyptians believed so) that the spirit will come back and it surely will need somewhere to stay, so that is why they made mummies. This information was decoded from the pyramids. The spirit of a man was called Ka and during all humans life and also after that Ka was the double of a man. (TO BE CONTINUED) |
| The great Sphinx... |
| Now you can truly say "Mystery of Sphinx"! Scientists and archeologists still can not understand and define the actual time when Sphinx was built. There are many theories. But what is getting for sure, thats the fact that Sphinx is much, much older then the pyramids which it is guarding. Those could not be egyptians who built Sphynx. Why? Some scientists have determined that on the surface of the stones of Sphinx there are marks of water that was on them at some time. And not any water but acid water, to be more precise - acid rain! But even in the very begining of egyptian civilization there already was desert everywhere. So... it is obviuos that Sphinx already was there when egyptians came to Nile. Another theory (by americans) says that the ones who actully built the Sphinx were the mysterious atlants. But there is one more fact that says it could not be egyptians. It is known to many people that Sphinx has a body of a lion and a head of a pharaon (that is proved). But some scientists noticed that the head of Sphinx is a lot smaller then it should be according to entire body. In fact, it looks very disproportionate. it could be that in the very begining Sphinx was a lion with lions head. But then, when there was egyptian civilization, they built a head of the pharaon instead of the lions head. Why couldnt they make a proper size head? Simple! The whole is made aout of one large piece of stone ( out of a cliff perhaps ) and so was the head. To change it (the head) egyptians had to gouge out the pharaons head from the lions head. That is why it is smaller! |

| You probably have heared something about the Great pyramid of Heops! Well, the first ones to enter it were arabiens in 820.B.C. and they discovered inside of it a whole complex of empty rooms. But inside the burial chamber of the pharaon they found an absolutely empty granit sarchopagus. The mummy of Heops still is not found! |
| Three tombs that surprised the world. |
| You must know who is or if talking corectly who was Tutahkhamon. Sure, it's the same old most popular pharaon of them all who were in Egypt! But in fact, he was just a boy when he died (about 18 or 19 years) and during his life he didn't do absolutely nothing remarkable! Why is he so famous then?!? Well, thanx to Mr. Carter, the archeologist, who discovered his tomb and it was the only tomb which was wasn't broken. It means that the thieves didn't get inside the tomb. Carter was a patient man because he was looking for a "missing" tomb till his sponsor almost lost his temper. But during the last year of the finansing Carter's searchings, he dug out one step, then he found another 15 and then... evrica! There was his dream, he saw a door... that wasn't broken! They found over 5000 valuable things in Tutankhamon's tomb. Another wonder of Egypt's pharaons was the tomb of Seti. When it was found, the archeologists saw how deep into the hill it went, they thought it was the biggest tomb of all of them, all rooms, coridors and halls together were 700 m x m (here and later the "x" means the same as 2 x 3 = 6). Scientists thaught that was it, there was no more to discover in the Kings' Valley but... when they found the tomb called KV5 at first it seemed something small and uninportant. After some time it turned out that they missed one hidden door, when that was open they saw huge amount of rooms, the hole place in the tomb was meassured as 3000 m x m, and this really was the widest and the biggest tomb (not in hight). |
| Why did Egyptians have all those mystical and legendary things in the first place? Well, my opinion is that in those ancient times people couldn't explain lots of things that happened around them, but they tried and so all the legends and mysteries appeared. They believed many things that seem absurd NOW but that's only because NOW we know much more! |
| Missing architect... |
| I suppose you have heard something about the name Imhotep! It's quite popular in nowadays, a lot moovies have been made about his person but in reality his mummy still isn't found! But did you know what he did? He was the architect of the first pyramid in Egypt - pyramid in Dashur (it was with steps). During his lifetime he was a very respectable and high-standing person with high social status because he was the chief architect of a pharaoh's pyramid and that was an enormous honour to build a tomb for king's way to the afterlife where his mortal body will lie. In fact, not only Imhotep's mummy, also his tomb wasn't found although there were many people who tried and still do... But this great man has gained one thing, the one that all the Egyptians longed for, beggining from peasants to kings, he gained an eternal life...why? "Speak my name and I will live again!" so goes an old egiptian saying. And there are millions talking about and mentioning the name Imhotep! |
