MAAKS stands for "Make An Aussie Kid Smile". It is a project that was started by members of an Australian based Internet cross-stitch group called Aussies Institches.

We take cross-stitched squares and turn them into bright and happy quilts. Round one is made up of eight quilts, one for each State and Territory in Australia. As each quilt is completed it will be donated to a charity or hospital so as to benefit sick children. The idea for this project was inspired by similar projects started by fellow cross-stitchers across the seas. Some of our members have stitched for these projects and, as a result of their efforts, many of us felt that we wanted to make the same difference for an Aussie Kid. As a fellow stitcher we would welcome your help to keep this worthwhile project going. Why not have a look at The Quilts page to see some of the squares our volunteers have already stitched. If you would like to become part of this wonderful project by stitching a square all you need to do is check out the Instructions for Volunteers page. If, after reading the instructions, you would still like to participate then send us an Email telling us your name and where you are from and in return we will send you mailing details as well as letting you know when your square is due and on which quilt it will be featured. While this may be an Australian based site, you don't need to be an Australian living in Australia to contribute to our project. After all, this is the World Wide Web.
