The Children.
My father, Aubra Baker and my Uncle Bib, told me that James Baker was
not always a good person, nor was he always a kind person. They
remember him when they were small children. He made either his sons
or grandsons do most of the work around the farm, and he made someone
scrach his back every night when he went to bed. Not just for a few
minutes but for an hour or so. They also told me about something they
both remembered very well. He would pay the grandsons to fight each
other. The winner would get a nickel. If you cryed, you had to go
get your own switch, and you got a swich'en. They remember a time
when they were fool'en around and spilled his drink, not lemonaid or
coffee either, he got so mad that he swiched both of them, and tied
them to front porch while everyone else ate.
They told me other stories, and I wish I would have written them
down.

This appeared in the paper (not sure which one) one year later:
In memory of Sarah Jane Baker, who died on year ago today, March 23,
1930.
We had a loving mother once,
She was our joy and pride,
We loved her, oh! perhaps too well
For soon she slept and died.
Heaven retaineth now our treasure
Earth the lonely casket keeps
But the sunbeams love to linger
Where our sainted mother sleeps.
Sadly missed by husband and children, J. L. Baker and Family
My father, Aubry Guy Baker, said his grandmother was a special
person. She was good person, and he remembers that she seemed to work
from sun-up till the sun went down, and was a great cook.
