Co., and went to Taylor Co. to be married. Book A, Page 75.

Samuel L. Baker, son of Bryant and Martha Baker was born in Tennessee
Sept. 17, 1844 and Died Dec. 27, 1932 at the home of his grandson,
Charlie Morgan of New Market, Iowa, aged 88 years, 3 months and 10
days.
He was united in marriage March 4, 1864 ( to Prudence M. Helmick) and
to them were born four children, three of whom are living: Bryant T.
Baker of New Market, Iowa: Jim G. Baker of Carbon, Iowa: and Mrs. Iva
Hazelbaker of Amelia, Nebraska. One Daughter, Minnie, preceded her
father in death in 1905. His wife also died in October 1916.
At the age of nine years he moved with his parents to Davis Co.,
Iowa. Two years later he moved to Taylor Co. where he spent most of
his life. Quite early in life he professed faith in Christ as his
savior and united with the Baptist church. His faith and hope has
hled like an anchor all the years.
Mr. Baker was a splendid type of manhood: Honest , true,
trustworthy, seldom speaking unkindly on anyone.
He leaves to mourn their loss, two brothers, Elihu of Gravity and
William of Elreno, Okla., three children, 15 grandchildren and one
great, great grandchild, besides a large circle of relatives and
friends.
Rev. Mr. Osborne conducted the services. Burial was made in Memory
cemetery.

Bryant Tipton Baker, son of Samuel and Prudance Baker, was born
October 13, 1865, near New Market, in Taylor County, and passed away
at the municipal hospital at Clarinda July 19, 1948, age 82 years, 9
months and 16 days. He had been in ill health for some time, and was
seriously ill the last two weeks.
He was married to Elizabeth Jane Sowles on June 2, 1888, at Superior,
Nebraska.
He is Survived by two sons, Orvy of Gravity and Elroy of smitherland,
Iowa, two daughters, Jessie Churchill of Gravity and Helen Wolfe of
Shenandoah: one sister, Ina (should be Iva [mis-print]) Hazelbaker of Pattonsburg, Missouri; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His wife, one son one brother and one sister preceded
him in death. He has been a member of 100F New Market Lodge No. 582 for 48 years. July 1948.1895 Taylor County Census:

Elizabeth Jane Sowles Baker's Obit. It appeared in the Clarinda
Heorld July 17, 1933
I have a copy of Elizabeth's Obituary. Willy Konieczny
Elizabeth Jane Baker, daughter of Thomas and Mary Sowles, was born
May 30, 1870, in Taylor County, Iowa and passed away at her home in
New Market, Iowa, June 25, 1933, at the age of 63 years and 26 days.
On June 2, 1888 she was united in marriage to B.T. Baker. To this
union were born 5 children, three sons and two daughters. One son
Guss, preceded her in death January 5, 1909. She leaves to mourn her
going, her husband and four children, Amy (should have been Avry,
[mis-print]) of Gravity, Iowa, Elroy of New Market, Iowa, Jessie
Churchill of Gravity, Iowa, Helen Wolf of Shenandoah, Iowa, and five
grandchildren. Doyle, Delores, Bobby, Arlene and Max Churchill. Also
three brothers, Fred and Tine of Superior, Nebr., and Charles of
Denver, Colo., on sister , Mrs. Ella Farris of Denver, Colo., and a
host of relatives and friends.
During the last 9 months of her life she was called upon to endure
most severe suffering, butwas patient and uncomplaining through it.
At a very early age in life she professed faith in Christ, but never
united with any body of Christian people.

Funeral Friday for J. G. Baker
Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church in New Market
Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. for John G. Baker, 70,former resident of
Taylor County who died at Burwell, Nebr., Tuesday of pneumonia after
an illness of six weeks. Rev. Shackelford will be in charge of the
services with burial planned at Memory Cemetery.
A sawmill operator, Mr. Baker had lived in Burwell for the past
twenty years. He was born and reared in Taylor County. Surviving are
two sons, Tipton and Alvia, three daughters, Mrs. Iva Hazelbaker, Fern
Baker and Arleta Newman and a brother B. E. Baker. He was a member of
the Odd Fellows lodge at North Loop, Nebraska. (The B. E. Baker
should be B.T. as his brother. [WBK[)

Sometime around 1888, William Taylor and Ella Maria started their
long trek which would eventually take them to the Indian Territory of
Okla.
Mary Elizbeth Sowles moved with her family to Superior Nebr. Later
moving on to Okla.
Ulysses Sherman Sowles spelled his name with a "w", but Albert and
Lenord changed their spelling to be with a "U" Soules.
