in Tenn., was a widow. Living with her was Ellen, age 48, born in
Iowa, Oct. 1851 and Walter age 23, born in Iowa, 1877. After Walter's
name is printed "AdS" I am not sure what that means. In the 1880
census, Walter Freeman is a ward of John and Mary.(WBK)

Notes for J. G. (JABEZ ) MOORE:
In the Taylor County Census 1860, under John D. Moore and Family,
they have his name as
Gartris, male, age 4 and born in Iowa. I think the person taking the
census could not spell Jabez, and wrote what he thought they had said.
In the 1870 Taylor County Census, they have him listed as
J. G., 14 years old, born in Iowa. I think the J. G. is Jabez G.
(WBK)

From the book "The History of Taylor County" 1981.
Edward William Moore was born in Lee County, Va., Aug. 8, 1834. He
moved to Davis County , Iowa with his parents in 1850. In 1856 they
came to Taylor County by Ox Team. This was all open praire at that
time. In 1857 he went back to Davis County and married Emeretta
Ogden, they returned to Taylor County. Shey settled on the farm just
north of Washington Center school house on the west side of the road
and spent the rest of their lives there.
They raised a family of seven children, 5 boys and 2 girls. He loved
to buy, sell or trade anything from livestock to land. This was his
hobby and the boys did most of the farming. He got the name of Uncle
Ned because of his kindness and willingness to help others. He was a
sturdy, plain spoken, rugged pioneer whose word was as good as gold.
He was widely known and missed by many after his passing.
He once owned the land on which the north end of Gravity now stands.
It was later sold to Daniel Woodfill who laid it out in lots and added
it to the town. It is known as the Woodfill Addition.
No one ever left his place hungry and if they needed a place to sleep
they were welcome. The couple joined the Baptist Church early in life
and were firm believers. They were laid to rest in Holt Cem., beside
their four children. Thare are many other Moores and relatives there.
