Are we suffering? Yes. Are we dying? Yes. Are we going to do anything about it? Yes - Join the Revolution! The evil mining corporation, Ultor, are now in control of every aspect of our lives. We eat what they say, we sleep when they say and we work when they say. If you even think about freedom, you are punished; by death. We have all lost friends in the mines, both to the Ultor, and to the plague that ravages these mines, but now its time to stop the suffering. We will fight by joining the Red Faction. We will regain our freedom. | ||

How do we do this? After all, we are only miners, not trained in combat. Well, a solution has presented itself to us - a computer game, called Red Faction, available for Playstation 2, is now being distributed to all of you. Keep this safe, and use it to prepare for the battles ahead. It will not be easy, but this game should give you an advantage Ultor never dreamed could exist.
During this training simulation, you will take the role of Parker, a miner much like yourselves. Your guides for the mission will be Eos and Hendrix. Eos, the leader of our group, will be in contact throughout the mission. Hendrix, our man on the inside - provides valuable information concerning the locations and activities of the enemy. Not everyone is a friend though! We have all met the "good" doctor Capek, and all know of his evil; beware! You will be expected to have great versatility. You will battle in canyons, crevices, underwater, and more. You will also have to use multiple vehicles including diggers, submarines and even short-range hovercraft. However, you will be able to save your progress at any point, allowing you to return and perfect your strategy. | ||

For your training, it is vital that this simulation be realistic. The weapons we will provide you with are all incorporated in the game, (including handguns, rocket launchers, flame-throwers, and even rail drivers). The realism is immeasurably enhanced with the use of "Geo-Mod Technology". In the tunnels of Mars, sometimes the quickest route is straight through a wall. This game allows you to use the heavier weapons and fully destruct any scenery (other than sheet metal), meaning we can do what we do best - make big holes!
Realism provided by the game's graphics is very important. Top experts, who have given the simulation high resolution, a wide variety of textures and many fascinating details have created Red Faction. The so-called "Red Planet" may just be red, but to those who have been here long enough, the true subtleties can be seen. Fortunately, the creators incorporated this, and each tunnel is as unique as the ones on Mars. The character models, such as Parker, are all realistic also. This game has ensured it has a fast pace. In your mission, you will have to be quick, and will have little time to think. The 30 frames per second are designed to keep you moving. Short loading times, with no "end of level" sections are intended to keep the mission flowing. Another feature to keep up the pace is CG; computer generated sequences that complete the story. The final touch is a two-player mode. This allows two of you to go head to head (or fight with up to five extra bots); and take each other on using the latest technology. This is a feature I am sure many of you will often return to, especially as it has levels unique to the two-player game. | ||

| This simulation also requires good listening skills, as sound will play a major factor. The voices in the games may often contain vital information. You will be able to hear what enemy soldiers are saying and alter your tactics accordingly. Announcements made by Ultor, concerning security movements, and other mine related incidents are also useful information sources. Music will be played during the game, to add more atmosphere. Varying between subtle periods, and more penetrative music, there is more going on than meets the eye! | ||

| You could also check out TimeSplitters 2, for an excellent 4 player mode. Whilst the single player game isn`t much better than Red Faction's, the multiplayer aspects are incredible, making TimeSplitters 2 the best FPS game around. | ||
