Looking for...

I am looking for audio/video recordings of live or AIR/Doordarshan concerts of some artists whose recordings are hard to come by. Many of these artists, in my opinion, never got the recognition or popularity that they deserved. For this reason, or for other reasons I haven't come across many recordings of these people. You will notice that many of them are still alive and most of the others passed away during the eighties. Thus being past their prime by the time recording equipment became prevalent is *not* one of the reasons for their recordings being rare. Another common feature is that many of these artists have visited the USA and so I suspect there should be good quality recordings of these people available here.

The people I am interested in are :

S. Ramanathan
S. Rajam
S. Balachander (though there are several pre-recorded LP's or Cassettes
of his floating around, I haven't found many live recordings!)
S. Pinakapani
T. M. Thyagarajan
Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan
Sandhyavandanam Srinivasa Rao
Rangaramanuja Iyengar
Tanjavur Sankara Iyer
Tanjavur Lakshminarayanan (Nanu)
John Higgins
S V Parthasarathy
Puducode Krishnamurthy
Manakkal Rangarajan (early recordings)
Turaiyur Rajagopala Sarma
Maruthuvakudi Rajagopala Iyer (Gopu)
B. V. Raman & B. V. Lakshmanan
T. K. Govinda Rao (early recordings)

Apart from concerts, recordings of lecture-demonstrations, kAlakshEpams, TV/AIR programs featuring them or their music would also be very welcome. For example, I know Prof. S. Ramanathan directed the music for a TV documentary on Thyagaraja which starred an actor called Kasturi in the role of Thyagaraja.

In exchange for these I can offer other recordings of these artists (somewhat unlikely) or recordings of other Karnatic performers. My email address is [email protected]

Looking forward to some responses.

Thank you.

Ramana
