M-L FAQ:

  • My name is Mai-Liis. (Yes, Mai-Liis is my real name. I'm Estonian by blood, Canadian by residence...)
  • You pronounce it like the wonderful Scott Thompson (of Kids in the Hall, and Larry Sanders fame...) did when I met him -- "My Lease is up?"
  • Ha ha...yeah. Believe me, I've heard it all. Call me whatever you'd like.
  • My mom had a friend named Mai-Liis. Hence, when I was born, the name was reborn.
  • My sister Kristi was born 4 years after me -- it's ALWAYS the older child who must endure the nasty experiments conducted by the parental units.
  • I am 30 years of age(April 2, 1975), looking roughly 16 and acting about 5.
  • I'm an Aries, if you want to know my sign for any reason.

  • I'm a graduate of the University of Toronto at Mississauga. I graduated on June 17th 1999 with an Honours BSc. with a double major in Psychology and Exceptionality in Human Learning. This will prepare me...for a lifetime of being an unlicensed psychoanalyst at parties.
  • I also completed my ECE diploma at Sheridan College... I graduated as a Sheridan Scholar in June 2000.

  • After graduation,I worked as an assistant in a junior kindergarten class, at Fern Hill School, a private school.
  • I completed my Teacher's College experience at D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY completing my Masters of Science in Education degree to become a teacher! I had two teaching blocks: the first was a kindergarten class, and the other was a grade 5 class. I taught for 6 months as an Early Literacy teacher, with a class of 7 grade one aged boys. I started my first full year of teaching as a special ed. teacher with a Primary General Learning Disabilities class. I have been teaching for 3 years at the middle school level, teaching a DC (Developmentally Challenged) class of grade 6-8 students.

I eat fish (all kinds of seafood), and I also keep fish in an aquarium in my room and still have some in a pond in the backyard, and in an 84 gallon tank in the basement. Don't make fun of fish as pets. They rock. And they listen to you.

  • I've had several interesting job experiences...I worked part-time at Laura Secord. They make good chocolate. Lots of cool people worked there too! :)I've been a dj, I've been a Promotions Director of my college radio station, I've done copyediting for the school paper, and I've even gone back to summer camp...I used to do casework with children with special needs. The special needs area of education fascinates me. I worked with a child with PDD-Autism for three years, but have worked with three other children with PDD and one with spina bifida. I was also a supply TA for almost a year, working with students/classes from kindergarten to grade 8. I've worked even with the youngest kids, in daycare. I have also volunteered in grade one and grade three classes. And also, for fun and to use some pop-psychology, I wrote for an internet advice column at Erindale.
