Big Game Shoot

The Course

The course consists of 35 McKenzie 3-D targets at unmarked distances. These targets are spread out over 10 acres of wooded, hilly terrain. The course is both realistic and challenging meaning the animal targets are placed in natural settings, at reasonable bowhunting ranges. Shots will range from about 12 yards to just over 50 yards and that distance varies depending on what class you are shooting.

Classes

The following classes are available for Men, Women:

  • Traditional: Longbows and recurves, finger release, no sights, no string walking, no peep, no kisser.
  • Barebow: Compound or traditional bows, finger release, no sights, hunting length stabilizer, no string walking, no peep, no kisser.
  • Limited: Compound or traditional bow, finger release, maximum of five fixed pins (pendulum sights allowed), no magnification, hunting length stabilizer, peep and/or kisser, no vee-bars.
  • Unlimited: Compound or traditional bow, mechanical release, maximum of five fixed pins, (pendulum sights allowed), no magnification, hunting length stabilizer, peep and/or kisser and no vee-bars.
  • Open: Compound or traditional bow, mechanical release, movable sight (includes scopes), long stabilizer, peep and/or kisser, vee-bars.

In addition, the following classes are offered as all one class for any style of equipment:

  • Juniors (Junior Division is for young adults ages 14 through 17)
  • Cubs (Cub Division is for ages 9 through 13)
  • Pee-wee’s: Ages 8 and under
  • Golden Bowmen: Ages 55 and over
  • Crossbow: Anyone wishing to shoot a crossbow

NOTE: There is NO multiple class registration. Shoot your class one time for score. If you wish to shoot again, enter the Second Time Around shoot (go there)

Scoring

Targets are scored 10+ (plus) for a hit in the center kill (IBO 10-ring), 10 points for a hit in the outer kill (IBO 8-ring), and “X” for a hit anywhere else (IBO 5-ring) or a complete miss. (See picture below). Scoring rings are in the higher scoring section. Arrows touching the line are scored as the higher value. Maximum possible score is 350 with 35 pluses (+)

Breaking Ties

Scores are determined first by total points then by highest number of spots (+’s). Scores tied after that will be decided by the first dropped plus (+) beginning with the last target and counting backwards to the first. Should any score remain tied after the first dropped plus (+) method, there will be a shoot-off Sunday afternoon. Shooters not present for the shoot-off forfeit the shoot-off.
