Welcome to my Ski Page

I have been skiing since 1974. I was eight years old when I started. After 30 years of skiing, I love the sport more than ever.

I live in Rochester Minnesota. My favorite "local" ski area is Welch Village. This will be my 9th year as a coach for the Welch Junior Devo Ski Racing Team.

Before Welch, I was an assistant coach for a high school ski racing team in Milwaukee Wisconsin (my home town). And before that, I was the head coach for Cudahy Senior High School's Ski Racing team (where I went to school).

I've raced for Cudahy Senior High School, the Metro Milwaukee Ski Council, and The Great American Ski Challenge. I'd like to start racing USSA Masters, but that would require more travel and more time on the slopes - something that my wife might not appreciate. :-) Maybe later.

I tried snowboarding once in 1996 at Mammoth Mountain, California. Click here to see an animated picture of me getting some air. I suck, but getting air in deep show was fun.

If you have raced NASTAR recently and you have your course time and handicap from that race, then you may want to check out my NASTAR Handicap Calculator. Or, you can perform the calculations manually by using the NASTAR Handicap Table and equations found below:

How to calculate your Nastar Handicap (NH):

First you need to calculate the PAR time, which is the estimated Nastar National Pacesetter Course Time:
PAR = LPCT / ( 1 + LPH )
Where LPCT = Local Pacesetter Course Time and LPH = Local Pacesetter Handicap.

Then your NH is calculated from the following equation:
NH = ( YCT - PAR ) / PAR
Where YCT = Your Course Time

Now you can calculate the following:
Time needed for a Gold = ( 1 + Your Gold Level % ) * PAR
Time needed for a Silver = ( 1 + Your Silver Level % ) * PAR
Time needed for a Bronze = ( 1 + Your Bronze Level % ) * PAR

Here are my WARP (Welch Adult Race Program) results for the year.
