The Masters

 

Ô-Sensei GICHIN FUNAKOSHI

     

       He was born in 1868 in shuri (OKINAWA) , started Karate with masters ANKO AZATO an d ANKO ITOSO at the age of 12.

     In 1922 he demonstrated Karate in Tokyo,then he was asked by JIGORO KANO founder of Judo who was interested in the art of karate, to teache his students . In 1935 the famous Dojo Called SHOTOKAN was constructed . He stayed in Japan until his death in 1957 at the age of 89 . Among his famous students ; EGAMI SENSEI ,HARADA SENSEI , MAKOTO GIMMA,OSHIMA SENSEI,NISHIYAMA ,MASATOSHI NAKAYAMA and his son GIGO FUNAKOSHI.

He Said about Karate - Dô:

     "you can train as long as you can , but if you content moving your hands and your legs , to jump and to bend like a puppet, there will be not much difference between your Karate and the dance . you will never reach the essential ; you will not success to grasp the essence of Karate Do . The art demand a descipline , rigorous as the life does, a daily struggle for life . to never stake for a second chance is the condition for success. "

Sensei SHIGERU EGAMI

 

       Born in 1912 . HE discovered Karate-Dô at waseda university (Japan) with master Gishin Funakoshi , and became his first assistant after the war bettween china and japan . a year after the death of Gishin Funakoshi , he became the chef instructor of Shotokai association, and master Hironishi as president. From 1958 to 1961 he carried out an important search about Karate.

his thought can be summarize in the following sentence :

            «  if the body has a limit , the spirit can go much Far »

   He introduced lower positions , (decontraction) chainning abd fluid mouvements in the Katas and the sen no sen ( anticipation on the attack ) . He die in 1981 , after having mastered the toate ( stike from a distance). He left also an evolutif school .

Sensei MITSUSUKE HARADA

 

       Born in Mandchouria ( china) in 16 Nov 1928.In 1943 , he saw for the first time a demonstration of Karate executed by YOSHITAKA Funakoshi son of Gishin Funakoshi. In 1948 he started his economical studies in mean time his karate at waseda university in Japan.

       The training was assured by sempai of reputation like OKUYAMA,HIRONISHI,EGAMI . Gishin Funakoshi inspite of his advanced age came to supervise the keiko . HARADA has trained with master Egami body to body and head to head for about 2 years . He go his 5th Dan in 1956 signed by Gishin Funakoshi .

      IHe introduced Karate to Brazil where he stayed until 1962, in 1963 and after an invitation from master Oshima , he went to France , finally his teaching has wide-spreaded  to many countries : Morocco ,Finland , France ,united -states

He Said about Karate - Dô :

        «  as Ô sensei said, there's no style in Karate . Karate is like philosophy. Each one has his opinion . who's right , who's wrong ? no one can say it . every one has to try to reach a point where he can show that he has created some thing in his life »
