Personal Reflection

I chose the topic “How the Internet Works” because the Internet is something that connects all of us, and almost everyone uses it. I use the Internet almost every day, yet I knew almost nothing about how any part of it worked. It was strange how something I use so often was such a mystery to me.

The Internet is filled with many patterns. Take binary code, HTML, and file compression as examples. Binary code is a language made up of only repeating 1s and 0s, and it is used to make every computer in the world run. HTML is made up of tags. There is always an opening and closing tag, such as <p> and </p> to make a paragraph. These tags are used to make almost every Web site on the World Wide Web. File compression uses algorithms to find repeating patterns of data in order to make files smaller and rebuild them again.

By doing this study about the Internet, I have made many parts of the Internet much clearer to myself, and I now know how everything comes together into one giant system.
