How Hyperlinks Work

Hyperlinks are text on a Web page that are usually blue. They will take you somewhere else on the World Wide Web when they are clicked on, so that you do not have to type a new URL in the address bar. (For example, www.yahoo.com is a hyperlink).

There are three types of hyperlinks. They are:

  1. Target links: these links move you to a different section of the same page you are on quickly. An example of this is when you click “back to top” on a Web page.
  2. Relative links: these links allow you to move to a different page on the same Web server.
  3. Absolute links: these links bring you to a completely different Web server.
