Concrete nouns and abstract nouns

A
concrete noun names a person, place, or thing that
    can be perceived by one or more of the senses:
  
sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell.

Memory aid: A concrete noun is tangible--that it, you can put your hand on it!

Exercise 5:  Look around the room.  Create a list of 10 
  concrete nouns.

An abstract noun refers to an idea, feeling, characteristic,    or quality, such as:
patriotism
love
courage
beliefs
responsibilty
competition
sorrow

Exercise 6:  Create a list of two each nouns that refer
to ideas, feelings,  characteristics, or qualities.


What's the conection?
"Courage" is an abstract noun, but one is awarded a medal--a concrete noun--for displaying courage.
"Idea" is an abstract noun, but a concrete noun--a light bulb--is used to represent idea.
"Love" is an abstract noun, but we often use a heart or Valentine to express this feeling.
"Time" is an abstract noun, but we use a clock--a concrete noun to keep track of this concept.

  noun.
