Materials Needed for Class:
3-Ring Binder- You are expected to bring this to class each day and keep all lecture notes, handouts, homework assignments, and returned quizzes in this binder. Binder checks will be performed on a regular and random basis.
Calculator- You will be using your calculator for much of this course; therefore you are expected have your own calculator in class each day.
Text Book
*Students without materials will be required to return to their lockers, receiving a tardy for that day.
Evaluation:
Exams will be announced at least one week prior to the scheduled test date. Exams may contain information from class notes, homework assignments, videos, and pertinent laboratory material. Students absent on the day of a test or quiz are expected to make it up within the allotted time, or they will receive a zero for the grade. Students are allowed one class day for each class day absent to make up the test. For example, if you miss the exam on an A day, you will be expected to make up the exam on the next A day you are in class. If you miss two A days, you will have two A days to make up the exam. Arrangements must be made with your teacher to determine the date and location of the exam upon your return.
Homework will be marked down accordingly for each day it is late and will not be accepted if it is more than a week late. If you know that you are going to be absent (i.e. field trips, athletic events, etc.) arrange to hand in the work early or via a classmate. If you are absent from class you are expected to get class notes and any assignments. Late work will not be accepted after the test for that chapter or unit.
Quizzes will be both announced and unannounced. Therefore, it is extremely important to keep up with your work. If you miss a quiz, the same process will be taken as for missing an exam.
Labs are an integral part of chemistry. Labs will be set up for one day. If you are absent from lab you will be unable to make it up. You are encouraged to hand in your lab write up for partial credit in this case.
Projects may include PowerPoint presentations, creating models, or other long term activity. Each project’s objectives will be clearly defined before it begins. As with homework, projects will be marked down accordingly for each day it is late and will not be accepted if it is more than a week late.
