The City of Brooklyn Park is looking for someone who is interested in earning a little extra money and contracting for coverage during the dates of June 13 - June 18th. There are three itinerant events and to be available to the fire department in case of an emergency. Temporary position opening: Sanitarian/Registered Sanitarian
Temporary position (approximately 6 months) in the Environmental Services Department (20 - 30 hours per week) as a Sanitarian. Sanitarian responsibilities: Food, beverage, lodging, swimming pool, manufactured home park and recreational camping area inspections. Assist in providing public education and performing environmental health activities. Assist with water well program, septic program and other areas of the Environmental Services Department.
Qualifications: Ability to work independently and meet the public. Bachelor's degree in environmental health, biology, chemistry or a related field, including at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hour credits in physical, environmental or biological sciences. Basic understanding of chemical principles (college course work).
Salary: Sanitarian $12.66 - $14.58/hour DOQ Registered Sanitarian $13.80 - $15.89/hour DOQ

CLASSIFICATION: Sanitarian Characteristics of Class: Under general supervision, an employee in this class assists the Environmental Health Director in the promotion and enforcement of sanitation and public health activities, laws and ordinances; performs related work as required. Work is performed in an office or in the field.
Supervisor Controls: Work is performed in accordance with principles, practices and techniques of public health and environmental sanitation. Work is reviewed orally and in written reports by the Environmental Health Director.
Examples of Duties: Prepare reports for the Environmental Health Director. Responsible for all assigned duties in the Environmental Health Department. Cooperate in coordinating related duties with the other areas within the Environmental Services Department, and other local and state regulatory agencies. Investigate complaints in order to determine if there are violations of applicable laws. Abatement orders shall be issued for violations. Maintain water well construction inspection activity so that water supplies are located and constructed in a manner not to endanger public health as stated in the local and state well code. Maintain the food, beverage and lodging inspection activities according to local and state standards and regulations. Maintain the public swimming pools, manufactured home parks and recreational campground inspection activities according to local and state standards and regulations. Provide knowledge and assistance for activities concerning contemporary and emerging areas of environmental health. Remain professionally current through continuing education in the areas of environmental health standards and public health sanitation. Collect water samples for analysis from private homes and public facilities. Possible duties assisting with septic program, planning and zoning, building permits, feedlot program and solid waste/recycling/hhw areas.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Any combination of training and experience providing the following knowledge, skills and abilities: For Full Performance: Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of public health and environmental sanitation. Comprehensive knowledge of state and local laws and ordinances regarding public health and environmental sanitation. Ability to plan, develop and organize environmental sanitation activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others. Demonstrated ability in effective oral and written communication.
For Pre-Employment: Graduation from an accredited four year college with a major in environmental health, biology, chemistry or a related field, which includes at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hour credits in the physical, environmental or biological sciences. Must possess a reliable vehicle. Must maintain a valid Driver's License.
