Jesus Christ was both human and divine. But, the Catholic mass and education puts more emphasis on his divinity than humanity. In order to fully see Jesus, we need to study and understand the divine, but more importantly, the human side.
Jesus, the son of Mary and Joseph, was a descendent of the great Jewish king David. He grew up like most Jews in his time did, studying scripture and probably going to a school of some kind. As he grew up, he learned his father's trade of carpentry and became his apprentice. Until he was about 30, nothing more of Jesus is known.
Around the time he was 30, Jesus began his public ministry. Sure he preformed miracles and cured people and preached the word of God. But in Jesus' actions he was just like any other Jew of his time. He went to be baptized by his cousin John like alot of other normal people. He didn't hang around with the Pharisees or Romans, nor did any of the common Jewish people. He had to fight temptations. Albeit these temptations came from the Devil himself, nonetheless, they were temptations. These temptations came at his worst time, as Jews News pointed out. In the Garden of Gethsemene, the night before he was crucified, he sweated blood out of fear of pain. When his friend Lazarus died, Jesus wept, like any other person would do. He had people in his heart that he treasured dearly. Jesus also did "down-to-earth" things that even most common Jews didnt do. He associated with tax collectors, prostitues, lepers, and well known sinners.
Jesus was probably followed and believed in by so many people because of his miracle power and his character. For one, he could perform great miracles that he attributed to God. Almost all of the people who saw these miracles performed started believing in everything he said. Secondly, Jesus had a persona that many people liked. He was a great orator and could speak convincingly and powerfully to the masses. When he preaching, he never made himself out to be a supreme, divine, being. He was always humble. Besides the "Cleansing of the Temple," Jesus always kept his temper under control. He was an all-around likeable guy and that was what made his teachings so greatly followed.
