If there was any sport that I should have excelled in, it should have been basketball. I had no real idols, nor did I have a favorite college or professional team that I followed. I had two advantages over other kids my age. I had a father to teach me the skills, and he had built a basketball goal on our roof top, at the foot of our extremely large 2 1/2 car driveway. I remember a many a day playing a game of horse, cat, or even a neighborhood game with friends and family. The driveway was so large it was pretty much a regulation half court. I mastered all the skills necessary to more than succeed in basketball. I only played one year in junior high school, and we had quite a few kids that played on the team with more tallent than I had developed. Below is the driveway where it all began and an eight grade shot of our junior high team. |
