15                                          Comforting Stranger

As she spread her arms out across the bed relishing the way she was feeling, her hand touched a solid mass beside her. Startled, she jumped off the bed and rushed toward the door, her heart racing. But as she reached for the doorknob she suddenly realised that the shape of the body lying in the bed looked familiar. She glanced around the room. Whats going on? She wondered. Glimpsing the calendar on the wall beside the dresser, she moved across the hazy room toward it, she couldnt quite make out the date. She inched closer.
October 15. She gasped and spun around. Rick was lying on his side facing her, still sleeping. She ran across the room and sprang on top of him hugging him tightly.
Hey, honey. What a nice way to wake up, he drawled sleepily, wrapping his arms around her.
I love you so much. She said, beginning to cry.
I love you too. Whats wrong, honey, why are you crying?
Im just so happy. I love everything about us.
Im glad to hear you say that, because, Ive been thinking...maybe its time we started that family youve been longing for. What do you think? he asked, tucking stray strands of her hair behind her ear.
I think thats the most wonderful idea Ive ever heard. She kissed him firmly on the mouth.
They rolled onto her side of the bed, their bodies entwined and Rick caught sight of the alarm clock. Id better get ready for work, he said, kissing the tip of her nose.
Peggy held him even tighter. Couldnt you work from home today? Maybe we could make a start on that family idea of yours. She smiled up at him.
Well...I suppose I could...being the boss and all. They both laughed and kissed each other passionately.
As the sun rose higher in the early morning sky creating a brilliant orange hue across the horizon, the two-toned Chevrolet pulled out of the fenced property and turned onto the dusty road heading towards its radiance. It cruised along the roadway for about a kilometre, then disappeared into the light.
