Introduction
The Effect of over voltage and overheating on resistors
In the past our society has taken a drastic change in our way of life, 1st it was the light bulb, then the telephone, and so on... Electronics are now becoming an essential part of our every day life, and if we didn't have them we would be at a major loss. Now we are experiencing problems, the electronics are failing and not functioning properly. The fact is they are overheating and being destroyed, which is a common cause of almost all semiconductor failures. In this project I plan to inject a steady continuous stream of voltage into these common semiconductors with a bench top power supply. I will use an accurate digital temperature probe to measure the increase in temperature of the component as it overheats. I will time how long it takes for the component to overheat and fail using a precise chronometer. I will test, in a mass of roughly 10, and I will set aside one component of each as a control without subjecting it to voltage.
In the experiment I will use 2 types of resistors, Carbon film and Metal film.
