Chapter Twenty-One

***A.J.***

As Jess and I struggled along, I suddenly had this feeling that there was
something behind me. And I didn't like it. With a small struggle I was able
to turn my head enough to see behind me.

"Oh, man!" I moaned, and Jessica sent me a glance.

"What?" She panted, a small catch of fear in her voice. "A.J., what's going
on?"

"Don't look now." I puffed, "But Sara just sent a whopper of a beam at us
and it's gaining!"

Jessica groaned and looked skyward for a moment. "Can't she give us a
break?!" She cried. "Honestly! This is pathedic."

I risked another glance behind us. What I saw wasn't good. "Faster!" I
cried. "That thing's like a foot off our tail!"

We both sped up: Me staggering on best I could, and Jessica trying her best
to kept us both up. We ran, our entire thoughts on running. That's why I'm
not sure which one of us tripped on the rock.

The only thing I know is that we both hit the ground on our stomachs. "Ah!"
I shouted, a streak of pain running through my entire body. I hadn't
expected that!

Jessica cried out in surprise, obviously she hadn't been expecting that
either. We both turned best we could, pain still surging through me, and saw
the black beam tearing toward us. It litterly tore up the ground as it came
after us, throwing chunks of dirt and rock to either side.

I bit my lip, and the pain I felt told me that I wasn't dreaming.
"Uhhh.....Jess?" I asked hesitantly, trying to scramble to my feet. I fell,
too weak to get up. "Do you see what I see?"

Jessica's voice was shrill and practically hysterical when she answered. "Do
I see what you see?!" She shrieked, not caring that she showed her terror as
she got to her feet and pulled me up. Needless to say we started running,
her almost dragging me. "We're in the dirt, more than ten yards away from
anyone who could help us, you're an invalid, there's a black beam of death
tearing towards us, and you ask me if I see what you see?!"

I couldn't help but laugh as we stumbled along. It was a very nervous laugh.
"Stupid question." I said shakely, extending my free hand. "But let's not
part on bad terms. Friends?"

Jessica grasped my hand. "Okay. I'll forget everything I had against you."

"Same here."

***Tai***

I watched as Jessica and A.J. fell, said something to each other, and then
scrambled to their feet. Jessica took A.J.'s hand and shook it. Apparently
they'd made some kind of agreement. But there wasn't time to think about
that now, they had to get to safety.

They ran, or staggered, and tried to get to the trees. I admit I was scared,
I'd never been in a situation like this before. Sure, I've been in the
battles and gotten shot at, but I'd never had my friends stuck in the middle
of a battle field as running targets before. All of us at the treeline
screamed for them to hurry. Matt looked ready to run right back out there.

A.J. dared to look again, only seconds after they'd started to run. "Uhoh."
Sora said from beside me.

"What?" I asked. "What's 'uhoh' mean?"

"They'd better find a tree quick." She replied, ignoring my question.

"Why?"

"Cause if they don't, that beam's gonna hit 'em!"

They had obviously come to the same conclusion, as they scrambled on faster,
and then Jessica tripped. She tried to right herself, and it looked like
A.J. was in a lot of pain, but suddenly T.K. gave a shout.

"Hey, look over there!" He cried. "There's that girl from the lake, and
there's a boy with her!"

We all turned to look, and sure enough, at the opening of the path that lead
to the river, there stood the girl that'd saved Jacob and another one. A
boy, with a red T -shirt and brown shorts stood there. Strange, they both
didn't look any older than Kari, T.K., or Jacob. His hair was light brown,
and he, like the girl, had a Crest and a green Tag on a silver chain. Only
his Crest had a green background with some sort of brown and red thing as
the symbol.

The girl was obviously talking to the boy, and believe me, he took one look
at Sara a look of total shock crossed his face. Maybe he knew her or
something. Hmm, but that's not my business.

Almost as soon as the look had crossed the boy's face, it was changed to a
look of hard determination after a few words from the girl. He set his legs
apart and braced himself with his arms in front of him.

"Um, what's he going to do?" I asked nervously.

***Sara***

"Magical Game!" I heard someone shout, in a voice that seemed very familiar.
I turned my head swiftly, trying to see who had spoken while fending off the
Digidestined's bothersome Digimon partners.

To my horror I saw who'd spoken, and my blood ran cold. "Nicholas!" I
hissed, my voice somewhere between aggravation and disbelief, betraying my
thoughts to all those who were in the range of hearing. I'd never wished for
them to get mixed into this.

Katy was with him, the sweetest and most loyal of the three siblings. And
the most innocent, as well. She simply did her job, dispite the
consiquences. But I doubt either of them knew I was in all of this before
today.

At Nick's shout, a large bubble shot from his hands and flew towards Jessica
and A.J., who hadn't reached the safety of the trees yet. The beam I had
sent after them was hot on their tail, as well. I nearly spat with anger
when the bubble caught the two of them up into just as my beam smacked into
them, rocketing them towards the tree line.

"Do you know ziz young velp?" Demiomon asked coldly, noticing my reaction.

"An aquantince." I replied just as coldly. Though my ally, Demiomon didn't
need to know all of my secrets. "No one of importance.'

"And ze girl, azz vell?"

"Also an aquantince." I answered absent mindedly.

"Zzo, you vould not have a problem in dezztroying zem?" Demiomon mused. "Or
zzhould I?"

A sudden fear gripped me. I hadn't wished for the children to get caught up
in this whirlwind of war, but it wasn't my fault they were. Still, I didn't
wish to hurt them. "I don't think that's necessary, Demiomon." I answered.
"They're doing no harm to us." An argument I knew wouldn't fly, but I was
desperate!

"No harm!" I heard Demiomon shriek. But as he shrieked, he got destracted
and WarGreymon surpised him with a Tera Force. Foolish Mega, did he really
expect to harm him? But still, Demiomon deserved that hit.

I turned back to the battle. The two Digidestined were safe. Nick had done
his work and he had disappeared, Katy with him. But I felt they weren't that
far away, just out of the battle range. So much the better for them.

***Mimi***

I was watching anxiously and Jordan had depostited Jacob behind the trees
and sank against one himself when A.J. and Jessica arrived at the tree line
and the bubble lowered them to the ground and popped gently. Jessica still
supported A.J., but not as much as before. I still held Palmon to closely.

"Thank goodness!" I cried, hugging the two of them but still being careful
not to hurt my unconscious Digimon. "You practically gave me a heart
attack."

Jessica smiled wearily. "Mimi, I'd think you'd be used to it by now." She
sighed and the smile faded as she sagged under her burden.

A.J. sensed her sag and straightened up. "Thanks Jess, but I'm feeling
better." He said, and staggered over to the tree Jordan was leaning against.
With a slight groan, he sank to the ground and leaned his head back. I
smiled and let out a relieved sigh.

"Oh my gosh! Jordan, what happened?" Jessica cried, running, or staggering,
to be closer to the truth, over to her brother. "Your shoulder!" She stared
at his shoulder but didn't touch it. I felt tears springing to my eyes and I
hugged Palmon closer. One hand went to my mouth almost instantly."

"It's nothing." Jordan said, brushing her away. He was startled when I
suddenly let out a soft scream. "Mimi?" He asked.

"Why didn't you tell me about it?" I cried, my hand over my mouth. "You said
it wasn't anything! You said you were fine!"

Jordan looked up at me in surprise. He looked down in shame a moment later
when he saw my pained look. "I didn't think it would be anything
serious...." His voice trailed off.

I bit my bottom lip and blinked back tears. "You didn't have to lie to
me...." I said softly.

Jordan sighed. "I'm sorry." He apologized. "I just didn't want you to
worry."

Suddenly there was a cry and I turned in time to see Tai and Sora trapped by
Demiomon. His wings made it impossible to for our Digimon to get in, but I
could just see Tai and Sora through his feathers. Suddenly I cracked, and
the tears fell before I could catch them. They fell on Palmon's unconscious
face, but I didn't pay attention. My world was suddenly falling apart.

***Palmon***

Clutching onto my consciousness with every ounce of will I had, I suddenly
felt something wet fall onto my face. And along with it, I felt that Mimi
needed me! A newfound strength shot through my body, filling me with energy.
My eyes flew open and I shone with light. I was Warp-Digivolving!

I heard Mimi gasp, along with the other kids who were next to her. "Palmon:
WaRp DiGiVoLvE to....Rosemon!"

***Tai***

Sora cringed behind me as I looked Demiomon straight in his blood-red eyes.
They burned like fire, but I think mine challenged his. He'd attacked and
hurt my friends, and I wasn't letting him do any more damage.

.....Okay, so that's what I really, really, really, just want you to think I
was thinking. In truth, I was scared down to the marrow in my bones, and I
knew my body wasn't going to protect Sora one jot. But I wasn't backing
down.

Demiomon had his face was only inches from my own, and his breath was hot
and smelt like something rotted and died. He was blocking us off from all
defence, shielding us from our friends with his huge black wings. They
couldn't attack him for fear of harming us, and we were helpless.

"Zzo Digidezztined.....are you afraid to die?" He asked, cocking his head in
a bird- like fashion. His eyes were glinting in a mocking fashion that in
furiated me.

I summed up my courage and somehow conjured up a smile. "Who says I'm going
to die?" I asked cockily, tilting my head like he'd done.

Demiomon laughed, throwing his head up and screeching loudly It was
absolutely terrifying to hear. I bit my lip and looked down, the only moment
of fear I showed.

Whoof! I gasped as someone grabbed me around the stomach and flew off with
me. I heard Sora gasp beside me, and Dmeiomon screech with rage. Our Digimon
cheered and Sara cried out in anger. What was going on?

The next second I was on the ground, and I looked up to see who our saviour
was. I expected WarGreymon or someone, but who I saw as someone unexpected.

She was a Digimon, I knew that. But I'd never seen her before. She was
wearing a red suit that stopped a little below her armpits and black boots
that reached up to her thighs and ended in a petal-like look. Her suit went
on below her boots, and had a arrow pattern cut out of the middle of the
front. The bottom of the arrow was up at the top, and the tip of the arrow
was right below her navel. Red gloves came from her fingers almost to her
shoulders and ended in the same way as the boots. Vines were wrapped around
both arms and a sword was hanging at her waist. Her skin was pale, but her
lips were red. I couldn't see her eyes because the upper part of her face
was covered by a large red rose that went up past the top of her head. Long,
thick, blonde hair came down past her waist, and was tied halfway down by
two roses and leaves. A long dark green cape that was hooked under her neck
by a brooch in the shape of a rose completed the costume.

"Rosemon!" I head Mimi cry, running across the campsite with a happy smile
on her face. "Be careful, Rosemon!" Rosemon? Mimi? I turned my head back and
forth between the two of them, my mind churning. Was this Rosemon Mimi's
Mega?

I turned back to Mimi, who was still running towards us and almost here.
Suddenly I gasped. "Mimi, look out!" I saw what she didn't. Sara.

Mimi slowed down, confused by my call. No! Within a second, Sara had one arm
around Mimi's neck, the same arm whos hand held her staff, and had the staff
pushing up Mimi's chin. Her other hand was in front of her and her captive,
holding us at bay. She glanced behind her, knowing Jordan, A.J., and Jessica
were there, ready to tackle the jerk and rescue their friend.

I glanced back to Mimi. Sara was only a head taller then most of us, like
Joe and Jordan were. But somehow, with Mimi as her captive, Sara suddenly
seemed a lot taller. Mimi looked at Rosemon pleadingly, her face was pale,
and she looked, very, very scared.

With an evil smile, Sara started moving off to the side, so she could watch
Sora and I, and Jordan and the others at the same time. "Apparently I have
you at a stalemate, Rosemon." She said, oblivious to us. "You wouldn't risk
the chance of hurting your Digidestined partner, would you?"

I looked up, Rosemon was stiff, her hand clenching her sword tightly. "You
may have stopped me from attacking you directly, Sara Myotismon." She said,
her voice deeper than Lilymon's but just as melodious. It shocked me to hear
Rosemon use Myotismon as Sara's last name. "But you have not defeated me."

Sara smirked, pushing her staff harder against Mimi's chin and making my
friend push her neck up further so relief herself of the pain. I heard her
cry out softly, but she'd tried to muffle it. "Really now?" She seemed not
in the least phased by the use of her father's name as her own.

I felt a sudden gust of wind, then-- "Zzara! Behind you!" Demiomon shrieked,
and Sara looked behind her.

"Sword of the rose!" Rosemon! Man, she moves fast!

Yes, Rosemon was flying towards Sara, her sword in her hand and ready to
strike. Sara turned fully around and threw Mimi to the ground as she brought
her staff up for protection.

Time froze for a moment as everything but Rosemon, Sara, and Mimi seemd to
go white. The next second, Mimi was on the ground and Rosemon and Sara were
in a full fledged duel!

I ran to Mimi as she scrambled to her knees, Sora right behind me. Jessica,
Jordan, A.J., and Jacob were on their way, as were the others. "Are you
alright?" I asked as I knelt beside her, placing my hands on her shoulders.

Mimi looked up at me and stifled a sob, then dropped her eyes and wrung her
head. I gave her a hug to help her out and noticed she was trembling. "I- I
was so scared!" She whispered, voice trembling as well, but color was
returning, so I knew she was going to be alright. I took the liberty to tell
her so as I held her.

"You're fine now." I said in a comforting tone, rocking her like I would
Kari. "Look, Rosemon's taking on Sara and Demiomon and not even missing a
beat." I pointed in the direction of Mimi's new Mega. "She's doing better
than WarGreymon or MetalGarurumon."

Mimi smiled. "I know. I'm just glad she's alright." Then she laughed. "Can
you belive that's little Palmon?" She asked me.

I laughed with her. "Actually, I can." I said as I watched the battle.
WarGreymon and the rest of the Digimon joined in the fight, and soon both
Sara and Demiomon were driven into retreat.

"I shall return, Digidestined!" Sara shouted as Demiomon lifted into the air
with her on his back. "I shall return and you shall feel my vengenge!" We
thought they were going to leave without any more trouble but then Sara's
eyes caught onto something that was almost at the edge of the trees. No! Not
that! Our cabin!

Sara glanced our way and obviously saw our fear. Holding on to Demiomon's
back with one hand, she aimed her staff at our cabin with the other and
shot.

"NO!!!" We all screamed at once. Not our masterpiece!

"Rahh!" WarGreymon jumped in front of the beam, blocking our cabin from the
distructive force. He dug his heels in the dirt as the beam pushed him
forward, and stopped only inches from our cabin. It was safe!

With a cry of anger, Sara beat her fist on Demiomon's back and left with
evil glares in our direction. We let them leave, not caring to battle
anymore than we had to.

With a small gasp, Rosemon De-Digivolved back to Tanemon, a Digimon we
hadn't seen in a very long time.

"Tanemon!" Mimi cried, opening her arms for her In-Training Digimon to leap
into. Needless to say I'd stopped hugging her a while ago. "You're my hero!"

"You're my hero, too, Koromon!" I told my own In-Training. "You saved our
cabin.

Tanemon and Koromon blushed brightly. "We're not that good...." They murmed,
and we all laughed.

Author's Note: Hey, guys. I won't be writing more any time soon. *ducks head
in shame* I know I haven't been writing anyway, but there's this one story
that I REALLY need to finish and I need to put all my effort into it. I'll
start writing again after it's finished, so don't expect any more chapters
until after Summer Vacation is over. I'm sorry, but I REALLY, REALLY need
to get this done. Forgive me.
