To "A Warrior's Tale"

A Warrior's Tale

Foul, the blow delivered

And a wound both deep and grave

As one smote upon the battlefield

Who once was strong and brave

Looking up through pain filled eyes

His spirit shattered and afraid

Through the hours his broken body

Had been scorched beneath the sun

So beset with darkest visions

That his journey now was done

And the foulest of the demons came

To claim what he had won

But this warrior's soul still lingered

As the dusk turned into night

And the shadows cooled his face

Beneath the evening's soft moonlight

And his steel eyes faced the demon

As he readied for the fight

"You have come here seeking weakness.

And a broken soul", he said

"I will give a warrior's fury

And a mighty curse instead."

"I will do you harm, foul demon

You will taste my sword's keen edge."

And the demon backed away

No longer sure about his fate

He feared the warrior's fierceness

And the harm that he might face

In a cloud of smoking stench

Did he then flee there from that place

The demon gone, once more alone

The warrior reached within

For strength beyond his mortal self

And Gods that called him friend

And rising to his knee, declared

"My journey will not end."

"For I have yet to see the things

As promised long ago

Not for naught did my blade sing

To vanquish every foe

I will not be denied

I will not cease before my goal."

And the Lady looked with wonder

At the spirit of this, her son

And the Lord cried out with thunder

"You will see your wound undone."

And beneath the golden moonlight

On a battlefield, alone

There was granted to a warrior

That his heart would find its' home
