Mar-ve-lous: Tending to arouse wonder, admiration, or astonishment
Three: Amounting to three in number

As many of you know, the Marvelous 3 has only been the Marvelous 3 since 1997. Before that they had been in a few different bands, the most notable of which are The Floyds (aka Floyds Funk Revival) and Southgang. I considered putting a link up to the Soughgang sites, but I fear the lawsuits I might get if I did. Not from the owner of the sites, but from those of you who have never seen the pictures before and would be seeing them for the first time through my site. The reason I say this is that 1 of 3 things could happen. You could be so tramatized that you'll need years of therapy. You could have a heart attack from the shock. You might even laugh so hard, you get hiccups for years. The Floyds, on the other hand are much nicer. And a complete 360 from Southgang. Sound, looks, everything.

I know that didn't make much sense, but most of you already know the story and have seen the pictures, and know what I'm talking about. Here's a bit more in-depth history.

Southgang: 1988-1993(?) Jesse Hart (vox), Butch Walker (guitar), Jayce Fincher (bass), and Mitch McLee (drums)

This was the first band where Jayce joined Butch and Slug. In 1988, they moved to LA and lived there for a year or two. While there, they received rave reviews and in March 1989, played their first major gig. They were also the first rock band to tour China. They released 2 CDs, Tainted Angel and Group Therapy.

Floyds Funk Revival: 1994(?)-1996 Butch Walker (vox, guitar) Chrystina Lloree (vox), Jayce Fincher (bass), Mitch McLee (drums), Bradford (?) (keyboards)

According to SPIN magazine, they returned home after one too many C. Thomas Howell sightings and Southgang didn't make it much longer. While in California, Butch, Jayce and Slug were impressed with a petite blond named Chrystina. (I'm not sure if she and Jayce had begun dating prior to them returning home. Let's pretend they hadn't) They convinced her to leave the band she was with and move to Georgia to form a band that's influences ranged from old-school funk to the 80s metal they grew up with. The love child that was formed was Floyds Funk Revival, named after the county the boys were born in. (Floyd County, Georgia) They toured for a year before ever releasing their first CD entitled "Creamy". Somewhere along here, Jayce and Chrystina began dating and were married. This was also when the band underwent a bit of a transformation.

The Floyds: 1996-1997 Butch Walker (vox, guitar), Chrystina Lloree (vox), Jayce Fincher (bass), Mitch McLee (drums)

For whatever reason, the band was shortened to 4 members and the name was shortened because, let's face it, Floyds Funk Revival is a really long name for a band. They released their self-titled CD in 1996 and continued to tour with it until Chrystina got pregnant and could tour no longer. Finally in May/June of 1997 they stopped touring and in July of 1997, Jayce and Chrystina became the proud parents of a little boy named Holden Riley Fincher.

The Marvelous 3: 1997-??? Butch Walker (vox, guitar), Jayce Fincher (bass, back-up vox), Slug (drums, back-up vox)

This bring us up to date. When Chrystina decided she could no longer continue touring, Butch was worried he would go crazy without anything to do. So he went to songs he had been writing while in the Floyds that were the opposite of what he had been playing. He went to two guys that he never fought with and asked them to join the band and they did. In August 1997, the Marvelous 3's debut CD "Math and Other Problems" was released. Everyone seemed to love it, but record companies. They received 2 ALMAs (Atlanta Local Music Awards) in 1997, one for best Rock N' Roll Band and one for the hardest working band in Atlanta. They continued doing 250 shows a year and in October of 1998 released "Hey! Album" on their own Marvelous Records (as opposed to Deep South Records, which released "Math and Other Problems). Leslie Fram, the program director for 99x, gave "Freak of the Week" airtime and everyone loved it and soon enough all the labels were dying to sign the Marvelous 3. In late 1998 the Marvelous 3 signed to Elektra Records and on January 26, 1999 the major-label "Hey! Album was released. Since then they have shared the stage on tours with Collective Soul and Eve 6 as openers and headlining their own tour with Dovetail Joint, Shades Apart, The Katies, and Self. At some of the larger festivals, they have shared the stage with Live and Bush.

So ends the documentation of the evolution that has brought us the band we all know and love. All the information here has been assembled from various places. If any of it is incorrect and you feel it should be corrected e-mail me and I will correct it.
