Tuesday 8th Feb Bubba Bar - Last pracy before no-hair-day Signals timing and cohesion Now as you regular readers know Ave a word is a pretty freeform collective. Although there are times when its as if the soup needs a little seasoning, perhaps a high heat to reduce it down a little. Well last night Rob became the soup chef. Responsible for the correct proportions of the mix and temperature. It worked. A series of breaks and beats made for a rather jolly evening. The line up included me (m35ha), Zoe, Em, Thea, Angels, Lucie Jerry Rob Matt and occasional shaker player Amy. Tunes we did were a lot tighter - stationary, Ken had a little verse as did Marcel Ratafia an excerpt from a La Negress Vertes song. The pics show it all: concentration commitment and passion. It is now 3 days till I get my head shaved. Already Em is planning the face makeup and acoutrements for Fridays festivities. The night is for charity but that doesnt mean we go all pious and dull......See you soon M35ha
Sunday 7th Feb Em decided to invite the band to a special gathering on Eastney Beach. Em, Jerry, Thea New boy Bunsen (Great name) Lucie and myself (m35ha) made up the procedings. Together we kicked out a big sound - samba drums for outside natch - amusing dog walkers and joggers alike. One puzzling thing was a person on top of the soldier waving a union jack in our direction. Don't know why - do you??? Musically we did a little ken, a little thrash stuff even some down beat samba. And some up beat samba. The night ended with Lucie sampling real ale in the S.L.O.B pub.
Saturday 6th Feb Havana bar - Soreeeeee forgot camera! Sorry no pics from this episode. In it we welcomed Lucie, Angels and later Thea n Lewis. Always great to see the big man and hear of his latest observations. Yep we did staitonary fused seemlessly with My dog. It feels tighter now. We are getting the hang of those stop me start me thingies and playing silence better without competition. Big haircut getting closer. I got some anticipation about the Gig but Thea has told me to take the day off so I will.
Tuesday 1st Feb Bubba bar First came Lucie, then Jerry, Nat and Angels. Followed a little later by Thea Em n Zoe. Didn't know if we were gonna play this fine bar but we did. settling into a few new standard rhythm progressions. Me, Im getting more bongo friendly - an instrument that used to brting me out in cold sweats and abject horror. Tunewise we did Stationary and My Dog. Vibewise we were joined briefly by a group of 4 (see random blokes pic). We are getting nearer biggig in which your writer has his head shaved for charity. YOWSAH!
Tuesday 25th January 2005 CE Re-takin the Elms Meet ing first Lucie, then Angels, Jerry, Thea and Rob at Bubba all seemed a little strange in the air. We knew we were unable to play as they had some kinda function. But we needed to. My week has been a little tricky at work and punishing elsewhere so I needed to let off a bit of steam. Debating the various Southsea bars we ended up at The Elms. a new Randombarmaid called er ?Sarah was there making us welcome as we played to an almost empty house. Lineup was completed when Em showed. Musically it was a lot of thudding though we had a few techno moments. We tackled Stationary, though i think this will work better outside. Casualty of the night was poor Angels' drum whose skin was sorely hurt. OUCH. The 11th Feb gets nearer. It sounds like the ticket of the year. Be there or soemthing Im off for a snooze
18th January 2005 Bubba bar We welcome Rob tonight. Along with Zoe, Thea, Em Jerry, Lucie n M35ha. Drumwise i tried out a Dholak - Jeeze its all gettin muso central - sorry reader. Ill let the pix say it this week.
Saturday 15th Jan 2005 Church of Cheese My learned friend EM! is now the chief prophet of the Orthodox Church of Modern Cheese. To this end there will be a link to the right of this weeks entry. The band: Well again a slimmer though perfectly fitting lineup which included Lucie, Myself, Thea and Tam. We clocked a couple of solid ones dipping into a little reggae and a little polka along the way. Thoughts occuring to me at the time: "can't wait till its sunny, 'cos we'll play on the beach then!!" and "OHMYGOD THEY'RE GONNA SHAVE MY HEAD SOON" This will be on the bnewly confirmed tsunami benefit on the 11th February at The Frog on The Front bar Southsea. Special mention to Lucie who shoed up a pictuer of an Igloo she constructed - no toilet so its an IG!
Friday 7th Jan 2005 ce Tsunami Benefit 1/ AKA Sallys Party A stripped down line up comprising of Jerry, M35ha, Lucie and Tam. No matter. I proudly took my new eBay Bongo stand into the breach - on the beach to play. With the otehrs on Djembes and shakers. The party was in aid of that beautiful wave that left disaster in its wake in Asia. Also for Sally whom I work with on Monday nights at a drop in we hold for those who have newly arrived in the UK that may have been tortured or worse. Sally didn't want gifts but did want drummers. How could we refuse? Setwise it was a lot of Bongo led madness with sparkles of frenzy and excitement. Of the 2 sets we played the first felt better - though by the second the kronenburg was really kicking in. The food was great thanks Sally. We welcommed Rui and a couple of the DJs who were playing latin music and also jamming. See pix. Looking forward to an exciting week M35ha
Tuesday 4th January 2005 Finally Christmas is over: Highlights - Em's now legendary party - so good even the police joined in the fun. - Getting a new phone - Good food - Bon hommie - That film that had those people in and did stuff. - Traffic free mornings - Welcomming back Zoe Lowlights - Congested evenings - Losing my moby - Not having anywhere to play, as all the bars were fully booked and the beach was too cold - Tsunami (more of that later) - Not being able to recall our last tike at Havana - Suzi being a sad 60-something-bloke from Paulsgrove - Missing Lucie A slimmed down band played at Bubba last night. Jerry, Thea and M35ha ('tis me). The stuff we generated was tight and afforded us the opportunity to experiment with texture. We did a brief rendition of Dave Dave Dave da da da da Dave. Please hurry up and make it sunny. And in other news: Tsunami benefit gig #1 Its Friday 7th Jan 2005 TEXT ME NOW FOR INFO. #2 Early Feb at the Frog..........again TEXT ME FOR DETAILS. So it just leaves me to share this years New Year's Resolution NOT TO GET CAUGHT!
