Marion Raven @ Bar None

Marion Raven, formerly from pop duo M2M, was in town to perform at the President?s Star Charity. But before that, she had a
showcase at Bar None on 29 July. UrbanWire was there to catch the event organised by Perfect 10 and Warner Music Singapore.
The performance stage at Bar None at Marriott Hotel was slightly elevated from the audience floor, creating a cosy setting 
that felt like a night?s out with friends.

Littered with flower petals, and lit with dark, moody lighting the bar looked even more inviting. Instead of serving 
alcoholic drinks, the bar provided a free glass of Coca-Cola to everyone to cater to underaged invitees. The stage itself 
was packed with props of various kinds like posters and microphone stands, 2 acoustic guitars and a huge keyboard that took
up half of the stage.

This exclusive showcase was only for the media and winners of the Perfect 10-Warner Music contest. About 30 excited fans 
mingled on the floor with their cameras and posters, waiting in anticipation for Marion Raven?s arrival. 
The showcase kicked off with Vernon and Justin, both Perfect 10 deejays, pretending to be Marion Raven?s stepsisters, 
?Veronica and Justina Raven?. Wearing blonde wigs, they were half-naked and had masking tapes around their nipples. 
They managed to work up the crowd with their politically-incorrect jokes and repeated ribbing at each other. Both of them 
were a hit among the crowd who were lapping up every joke, greeting each punch line with rip-roaring laughter. 

Both of them also asked various Marion Raven trivia questions and the winners got to walk away with an autographed Marion 
Raven poster. One poor guy even had to serenade ?Veronica? with a song before he could get an autographed poster. He kept 
stumbling and changing his songs, prompting ?Justina? to say, ?Veronica, you?re too ugly la. Every time he looks at you, 
he?ll forget.? Finally, the guy sang an M2M song till the chorus before breaking into peals of laughter again. The 2 blokes 
finally decided to let him off the hook and gave him ?his precious?? (the poster). 

Marion Raven finally made her grand entrance as the crowd chanted ?Marion, Marion??. Looking fresh in a white top and jeans,
she made her way to the stage from the back while smiling and acknowledging the crowd. 
She kicked off her showcase with an acoustic version of ?End of Me,? one of her singles from her new album, Here I Am. The 
crowd was generally quiet in the beginning but gave rousing applause after she finished her song. 

The crowd started singing along during the second song, ?Break Me?, when Marion encouraged them and even sang the chorus 
while she strummed the guitar. Exhibiting the flair and panache of a seasoned musician, the 21-year-old kept praising 
Singapore and her people in between songs. 

The sound system was excellent, picking up her beautifully strummed guitar chords. Marion?s voice was also brilliantly 
rendered even when she screamed into the microphone, showing off her extensive vocal range.
After playing a medley of 5 songs from Here I Am, it was the end of the showcase and the question-and-answer session was 
next. The highlight of the session was when a guy asked her to marry him and the whole room exploded into laughter. Marion 
smiled and said, ?I?ll get back to you on that.? 

The showcase was an excellent performance leaving most invitees wanting more. One of the contest winners, Yuki Tan, 15, 
said, ?She came late but ended early. I still enjoyed the showcase though.? 
After the showcase, most fans mingled around to chat and took more pictures with the Perfect 10 deejays and among 
themselves. It was indeed an intimate evening with Marion Raven, a beautiful pop star with an angelic voice.
