Enhanced Compression Rifle type 16 (ECR16) Assault Rifle

After several operations involving close quarters battle [CQB] that resulted in unacceptable losses, Starfleet SOCOM and the Starfleet Marine Corps resolved to manufacture a lighter, more effective version of the standard phaser rifle. The result of this decision was the Enhanced Compression Rifle Model 16 (ECR16). The weapon that emerged from Colt Firarms R&D Factory was an interesting design overall.  It utilizes Magazine-Style chargepacks like the Pulse Phaser Pistols, and has a select fire switch for Single-Shot, Three-Round Burst, and Fully Automatic Modes of Fire. One of the concerns addressed is the weapons overall durability. The outer casing of the weapon is now made of a 1/2 sheet of Tritanium over a cast Duranium framework.  This gives the weapon rigid durability that has proven to be resistant to shock damage which has put many a hand phaser out of action. A pulse rifle, like the PR5, the ECR16 has proven itself as an excellent and durable weapon in the battlefield.  The A2 usually has a built in G203 Photon Grenade launcher, which in many cases is preferred.
