The ECR4 is a smaller version of the ECR16 utilized for intense Close-Quarters Combat, however, it is slowly becoming the standard-issue SOCOM service rifle.
On the top of every unit, there is a hard point for any sight deemed tactically necessary (though with CQB this will be seldom employed), as well as a Pictanny Rail Forearm, with mountings on the top, both sides, and bottom. This allows a G203 Photon Grenade Launcher or PBS870 Plasma Burst Shotgun to be fitted as a secondary weapon (as seen in the above pictures). The add-on kit also includes several types of sighting options, scopes, and sensors to assist infultration, target acquisition, and target observation. Typically a laser designator or tactical aiming sensor is used instead given the more intuitive benefit of actually showing where the shot will hit.
The ECR4 can also be equipped with an I-MOD or Phaser Silencer for stealth operations (as seen in the upper picture).
A drawback of the weapon is the moderate to high recoil rate of firing on full auto. Secondly, the weapon does not have a computer-controlled max output usually seen on Phaser weapons on a starship, mainly because the rifle is mostly designed for Marine use. |
