The SSR Technologies BLSTC-90 Sub-Machine Gun, or the "'90" as it is called, is a radical departure from Phaser weapons. Whereas Phasers used Phased Ion Energy Rectification, the BLSTC-90 uses Compressed Helium to propell 2x20mm teflon coated gold spikes at subsonic speeds. Its selector switch has Safe, Semi, 5-Round Burst, and Fully Automatic modes of fire.
The weapon is relatively quiet, usuaily the only sound is the rapid 'clicking' as the reciever recycles the gas, but the weapon is really fast firing. It has been rated in excesses of 1,500 shots per minute.
Based on the same body as the PR5 this weapon is small, compact, silent, and it dosen't require a charge pack. With this in mind, the weapon can operate without an energy signature and under energy dampening fields. Perfect for Special Operations and stealth missions.
The spikes themselves are contained in 100-round clips and are specificaly shaped like 'toothpicks' so they are almost garenteed to puncture up to 5cm of Ablative Duranium Armor and can shread Borg Shielding with their physical impacts. To assist in this, the core is a specialy engineered crystal designed to resist electromagnetic force fields and other 'special' energies. Its design and specific makeup is highly classified and are mass produced at a Top-Secret research base in the heart of the Federation.
The '90 is currently in limited production, issued only to the Starfleet Special Research Division's Delta-Nine Security Team. There, it is currently undergoing field tests on Highly Classified Missions, where it can recive a proper field test. So far, it has performed admirably in limited engagements. |
