Thunder Run is a unique powered roller coaster, themed after a runaway mine train. Rather than having a traditional chain lift hill, the train has an electric motor onboard. The train (consisting of nine cars of two rows of two seats, plus an extra single row at the front of the train) flies directly into Wonder Mountain, the artificial mountain that is the centerpiece and trademark of the park. The coaster opened in 1981 as one of the park's original four roller coasters.

Ride Experience
Thunder Run occupies the interior of Wonder Mountain, with sections of the track occasionally peeking out for short periods. Thunder Run has a medieval theme with a sculpture of a dragon alongside the track inside the mountain, nicknamed "Herman", as well as flashing lights. A notable feature is that you get two laps for every ride, so once you have run through the track's course you zip past the station without stopping and repeat it all over again before coming to a stop the second time you arrive in the station.

Other Information
Before 1986 Thunder Run was located just outside of Wonder Mountain and operated as a standard Mack "Blauer Enzian" model, but was then relocated, extended, and incorporated into the former "Wonder Mountain Walkway" attraction. The layout is believed to have changed as part of this move.
Colours: The track is steel running rails, the supports are wooden, and the trains are yellow.
