| Skyrider debuted back in 1985 as the park's fifth roller coaster, and the first roller coaster that was added after the original four. It was added one year after a near-identical coaster, King Cobra at King's Island, and was therefore North America's second stand-up roller coaster. They were two of TOGO International's first generation stand-up looping coasters. While both were temporarily shut down on August 25, 1999 after a man died at the King's Island incarnation, SkyRider is still operating today whereas King Cobra shut down for good in 2002. There are 2 trains with 6 cars; each car has 2 rows with 2 riders across for a total of 24 riders per train. Ride Experience Skyrider has a fairly simple layout. The ride starts by taking you up an 88 foot chain lift hill. As soon as you get to the top you take a little dip down and then quickly turn around 180 degrees into the first drop, which is a steep 84 feet. From there you go flying into a large banked helix and fly back out past the station into a "bunny hop" hill and bank from one side to the other as you turn around 180 degrees again and go through a few more bunny hops before turning around and pulling into the station. Skyrider is a fun and thrilling ride, giving you the sensation of falling out of your seat. It is a very unique ride, one of only 15 standup roller coasters currently in operation today. Other Information Colours: The track and supports are dark green, the track outline is orange, and one train is yellow while the other is orange. Best Seats: Sit in the back if you want to get the most airtime, which this ride is full of, or sit in the front if you want the best view and get the feeling of flying. Queue Line Wait Time: There is normally a long wait for this ride because it is quite popular, usually at least 45 minutes to 1 hour. |
