Tandy 102 Laptop Computer
Tandy 102, Radio Shack Model 100, Traveling Software Booster Pak
After threatening several times, I finally assembled my collection of favorite, custom Tandy 102 / Radio Shack Model 100 software.

The documentation and optimized code are original, but these files all build on the ideas and techniques first shared by contributors to the
Club 100 program library, Portable 100 Magazine, and the very talented and prolific programmers of the now-defunct CompuServe Model 100 SIG.

Programs are posted in both tokenized BASIC (.BA) and as plain  .TXT.  View the code from a browser by double-clicking on a .TXT link.  Save a tokenized BASIC file to a DeskLink directory by right-clicking a .BA file and saving it as .BA.

Documentation is all in plain text .DOC files. Change the file extensions to .DO if you'd rather read them on the M100.

Enjoy!
    Nostalgia?
     Not Here!

As I write this, a few years into the 21st century, I still use a Model 100 and a Tandy 102 weekly.  Why?

- Instant-on means working, not (re)booting.

- Simple apps deal in plain text.    No "conduits," conversions, or extra utilities necessary.

- "Information appliance" approach emphasizes tasks, not "flash!"

- Huge library of open source software.

- Built-in MS BASIC for solutions on-the-fly.

- No "Blue Screen of Death"

- One-piece design avoids the laptop balancing act.

- Full-size, full-travel keyboard.

- Standard serial and parallel ports.

- Easy-to-read display.

- 20 hours on four standard AA batteries.

This isn't about nostalgia. My T102 and M100 work alongside much newer hardware, including machines from HP and Palm.  I'm hoping I'll eventually be able to retire my twenty-year-old laptops.  If only someone would build a worthy successor.
Utilities, Applications & Hacks:
