Dangerous Bond

Chapter 32 : Kiyashi Suspects

Vegeta hadn't flown very far when the strange dizziness forced him to descend.

"Kuso!" He cried as he landed, leaning against a nearby tree and massaging his aching temples.

What was wrong with him?! It couldn't be the powerburn, that had worn off ages ago. He let himself slide to the bottom of the tree trunk, mind searching through all the possiblities. Had there been something in the machine Bulma had made to boost his level that had after effects like this? Or had he caught some stupid Chikyuusei sickness? Was that even POSSIBLE? He would have thought that his Saiya-jin immune system could resist something that pitifull...

The pain spread from his head to the rest of him in a sudden flash of white. Vegeta let out a low groan and doubled over, tail wrapping around the tree and tightening until a resounding crack echoed over the surrounding area. Splinters of pale inner wood showered over Vegeta as the tree toppled over behind him. He didn't even notice; the pain was beginning to receed and he was hoping furiously that it never returned.

Back at CC Kiyashi nudged the door to Bulma's room open with the toe of her boot. Bulma sat up immediately and wiped her eyes.

"What's wrong?" The Saiya-jin wondered.

"Vegeta and I had a fight..." The older woman replied, sniffling a bit. She glanced at the Saiya-jin no Hime's wounds, which were numerous, with concern. "Are you all right?"

"I'll heal." She sat beside the Chikyuu-jin she know considered a 'friend', "What about you?"

Bulma opened her mouth to say she was fine, but ended up spilling the entire situation to her beau's sister. Kiyashi listened, shifting to the floor and lying on her stomach to make herself more comfortable.

When Bulma was finally done the Saiya-jin was astonished.

"He did that?" She asked about her brother, "He really gave up that ammount of power to save everyone else?"

Bulma nodded, "And then I went and shouted at him!" She wailed.

Kiyashi resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her distressed companion. "Look, have you fought before?"

"No, not really." Bulma sniffed, "Why?"

"Then why worry? You've only had one arguement so he'll be back by tomorrow."

"You think?"

"I KNOW."

Bulma let herself smile. "You know, for a Saiya-jin, you're pretty good at talking about stuff." She told Kiyashi.

The warrior shrugged. "It was my mother's doing. She always said that, although being able to turn yourself to ice was usefull, being able to show emotion without fear is the best thing you can learn." She sighed, "My brother wasn't taught by our mother. He is afraid of emotion, you know. He thinks that everyone will see him as weak because he managed to show himself for what he really is. You've done well to get him to open up like you have."

"Vegeta, afraid?" Bulma wondered, "I thought he was never afraid..."

"No offense, but you don't know him as well as I. But anyway," She stood up again, "I'm going to have a shower. When I get back I expect you to be happy, got it?"

"Yes ma'am!"

Kiyashi left the room, leaving Bulma feeling considerably better. She rolled onto her back and stared up at the ceiling. Kiyashi had surpised her when she had come in to comfort her, but Bulma had a habit of thinking of the two siblings as nearly identical temprement wise. Just goes to show that they were two differnt people with as many differences as similarities. The blue haired genius got off her bed and went through to the kitchen, her feet padding almost silently across the hard floor.
Switching on the light Bulma started to make herself and Kiyashi some dinner, not really sure whether or not to cook for the absent Saiya-jin. She made a little extra, just in case. By the time Kiyashi entered the kitchen following the scent of food, Bulma was almost done, currently in the process of serving up. She looked up at Kiyashi as the younger woman entered and grinned at her. She was wearing some of Bulma's own clothes, blue jean flares and a tight red top with slashes across the stomach. The Saiya-jin's long golden brown tail was wrapped securely around her waist, looking like a furry belt. As she looked at her Bulma realised that she almost had a rival for best looking female alive... Almost.

Soon both of them were seated at the table, Kiyashi plowing through bowl after bowl after plate after plate of food while Bulma ate at a slightly more sedately pace. By the time the heiress to the Capsule Corporation was done with her food Kiyashi was sat back in her chair, head back and eyes closed. Bulma watched her for a second, wondering if she was asleep, before shrugging and putting the huge pile of plates in the sink. She was just about to run the hot water over the dishes when the back door slammed open and a ragged looking Vegeta stormed in, still dressed in his bodysuit and armour that was purple from the battle.

He found himself faced with the stares of both women.

"What are you looking at, onnas?" He demanded.

"You." Bulma replied.

"Just where have you been?" Kiyashi inquired, her obsidian eyes burning holes into his own.

He looked away from her, afraid that she would see the pain in his eyes. "It's none of your business." The prince snapped and headed upstairs.

Bulma rolled her eyes, 'Still angry after our fight, I guess...' She supposed, not really thinking much of it.

Kiyashi frowned after her brother, wondering why he hadn't been able to hold her gaze. It wasn't like him, not at all. There had to be something up, the question was: what? Was he having regrets about giving up his strength? Somehow that didn't seem to fit. Pushing her chair under the table with an ear-splitting squeak the Saiya-jin no Hime followed Vegeta up the stairs, leaving Bulma alone to let the dishes soak.

She found Vegeta in his room, laying across his bed. He had discarded the blood stained gloves and armour and was now clothed in his bodysuit. Both hands were on his head as he lay there quietly, a frown plastered over his handsome features. His sister's frown was a carbon copy of his own as she looked on at him.

"What do you want?" The Saiya-jin no Ouji demanded after a minute's silence.

"I want to know what's wrong with you." She answered calmly, "And I order you to answer me."

Vegeta raised his head and looked over his shoulder at his sister with contempt. His eyes were shadowed and bloodshot as he replied.

"You can't order me to do anything."

"And you cannot pretend that you are fine!!" Kiyashi cried, ki throwing thunderbolts over her body. "Tell me!"

"You tell me." He said slowly, "I just have a headache from over-powering earlier. YOU were unconcious on the floor not so long ago."

Obsidian eyes locked as the siblings returned each other's rock hard glare.

"There is nothing wrong with me." The Saiya-jin no Hime spat through clenched teeth and turned on her heel, storming across the corridor and slamming her door behind her. The entire house shook.

'He's lying to me.' She thought to herself as she sat on the bed, hands clenched into fists in her lap. 'No headache would make my brother act that way toward his mate.'

She let herself lay back against the pillows, brow furrowed in thought. There was something, but what? And was he beginning to realise what was wrong with her? Kiyashi shook her head. He better not. The last thing she needed was for Bulma to find out from him and then tell her feather brained mother... After having to put up with the blonde ditz for a day after kidnapping her the Saiya-jin wanted nothing to do with Bunny. If they found out she'd never hear the end of it... Well, she would, but still.

In the room across from Kiyashi's Vegeta tried to force himself to sleep. At least then he wouldn't say anything else to endanger Bulma's love for him. He growled slightly and rolled over. He hadn't meant to act the way he had, but agitation was something the prince had yet to learn to deal with properly. But he couldn't get to sleep. After a while he got up to get himself a glass of water, hoping that the liquid could stop his head from throbbing.
Vegeta had just returned to his room when Bulma came in, looking nervous. Vegeta looked up at her but said nothing. She took a deep breath and started.

"Well, uh I wanted to say sorry for everything earlier." She said, knowing that it sounded weird but not really caring. She had to get this right! "And that I was wrong for shouting at you. You gave up all that and I..."

"Didn't do anything." He said softly.

"Huh?" She looked up and finally saw the state he was in. "Oh Kami Vegeta! What's wrong with you?"

"I have a headache." He replied, "That's all. Now go away before I shout at you again."

"I'll get you something to get rid of your headache, THEN I'll leave." Bulma insisted as she left the room.

She came back five minute later with a glass of water fizzing with the bubbles from a small pill that sat at the bottom.

"Drink." She ordered and handed it to him.

The prince eyed it suspitiously, but downed it anyway, pill, bubbles and foul tasting water.

"Happy?" He asked as he handed the empty glass back.

She leant down and kissed him lightly on the forehead. "As long as you get better."

She left him there.
