Table showing vertical heights (in pixels)
corresponding to chosen width and common source aspect ratios.
Use of combinations denoted by cells shaded grey is not recommended.
Comments on TXD RULES 2K5
Movie Length:
- Rule for number of CDs is poorly written and confusing. Instead of minimum runtime per CD it should be expressed as a maximum number of CDs per release.
Resolution and Aspect Ratio:
What does WS mean? There is a big difference between 16:9 widescreen and 2.39:1 widescreen. A more flexible approach based on the table above is recommended.
Rules state that encodes must be within 5% of the original aspect ratio. It's hard to see how this could ever not be the case. Maximum error in the above table is 3.2% (using 592x240 for a movie with OAR 2.39:1).
If 576x432 (frame size 0.25 megapixels) is allowed for 4:3 movies, why is it that widths of 688, 704 and 720 are not allowed for 2.35:1 and 2.39:1? Frame sizes in these cases do not exceed 0.22 megapixels. Limiting the width to 672 means the frame sizes are limited to a maximum of only 0.19 megapixels.
