advice / opinion column
This Urban Diva is satirical, edgey and comedic, but has solid opinions and advice. got issues? we all do, and ... what?
...Piggyback rides...

Can someone please tell me why it is that the parents, siblings, in-laws, cousins... "twice removed", neighbors, garbagemen, gynecologists, and even the "pets" of Celebrities (okay, maybe not the pets) ...feel the need to ride their coat-tails for fame - even if ... they have absolutely no talent, nothing to say worth listening to, and no reason to be "famous" other than being related to ... or knowing this person? These people with these "tell-all" books, interviews, and "long lost photos" ...really get on my nerves. Bottom line ... this is "hatin' at it's worst", plain and simple. It can only be jealousy that would make a person want to sell their experiences and memories in the form of an interview to a publication, or pictures to magazines and web sites ... of the very person who probably fed you and your whole family at some point on their way up, even while they were struggling for fame themselves.

Then there are those that will become "famous" because of their last name, and their last name only... - never mind that they can't sing, act, dance, or even "drive" worth a lick... (and if they come up with one more reality show about someone else's mother, kids, or ex-wife... you know where I'm goin', but I'm gonna be a lady and not use the word - "p-ke", so instead I'll say, ... I'm gonna be "sick"). There is too much home-grown, untapped talent out there for me to run out and purchase a CD, watch a show, or wear something... just because somebody's "sister, brother, cousin, babymama / babydaddy, or friend", has recorded it, is appearing in it, or is selling it. There is a reason your famous sibling is the one who "became famous" and you didn't "Boo" ... so just go have a seat until they get "that" career off the ground ... then maybe they'll put you on the payroll as some type of production assistant or something, O.K.?!

Recently having attended a couple of concerts where the Artists could not only "sing live", but also "played their Own instruments", made me long for the nostalgia of those times when it was "impressive" for a kid to take music lessons, belong to a choir, or express an interest in some type of activity that would sharpen a skill and develop a talent. Nowadays, kids don't see past a "game controller" or the "keypad" on their cell phone and the only practice those little hands are getting is in text messaging... but when their Mom's cell phone's ring tone is a loud voice asking ..."Where U at?!"... and their Dad's is ..."There's a h-e (think garden tool) on line 1"... well, without meaning to stereotype anybody - they may not have the genetic make-up required to be anything more in life than a "Club Bouncer" anyway ... *(no disrespect to Club Bouncers).

If you happen to be related to, or the friend of, a ..."Mega-Star", I'd advise you to keep the "bizness" to yourself ... wait until they are no longer a "household name" or have passed away, - and even then you may want to give it an appropriate "grace period" (whatever that may be) ... before you spill the "dirt". To tell you the truth though, nothings sacred or surprising anymore, so you probably won't be tellin' us anything we don't already know ... ya' think??? Love and peace til' next time ;) wink!

*note: the author wishes to express that the subject matter in this publication is by no means meant to hurt anyone's feelings. (In other words, I'm "venting" and I probably couldn't think of another job title to use at the time... please understand - no offense intended- Bouncers are a good thing - who else can deal with intoxicated people on a regular basis???)
