...talkin' "Black" ... ???
What is that? ... How does one talk "BLACK?" Where does 'that' come from? Who determines what is considered "Black speech?" and since "black" people were first taught the language of this nation by "Caucasians"... isn't the truth really that "black" people are talking what could be considered ... "WHITE?"
If I hear one more person say to another, "stop trying to act black", or "quit acting white", they're not gonna like me much afterwards. When I see or hear this kind of stuff, you know ya' girl never hesitates to ask... "How does one act black?"... or ..."What do you mean by he or she talks white?"... No one person, yet, has been able to give me a sensible answer for my question. The truth is, it's because ...there is no such thing.
People, regardless of race or culture, come from many different walks of life. There are the more educated and elite class of folk, who place a tremendous amount of emphasis on where they live, work, and where their children are educated. Then there are the middle class working folk, those upon whose backs they say the country is balanced... and then there are the "struggling to get by" folks. They do not come in one specific "color" and just because a person may not have the "finesse" of one who is more wealthy or educated than them, doesn't mean that their lack of etiquette, social skills, style or manner of dress, or inappropriate use of grammar can make them "talk" or "act" ...black. They are functioning within their capabilities, and if that means being deprived of social graces, manners, respect etc., then call them what they are, ... ill-mannered, and disrespectful, but that is not by any means just a ... "black thing" any more that success is just a ... "white thing".
Of course you know, people will dare to argue this with me, but I'm standing firm on my belief that "trash" blows in from everywhere, and comes in all colors and shapes. Every negative thing that comes out the "hood", need not be equated with "black folks." Our society is a melting pot of races and ethnicities where there is good and unfortunately - bad in every group. Improper language, mingled with constant speaking of slang and verbage does not necessarily associate one with their racial make-up. That is more of a society and lifestyle issue, and we know that today, most are reluctant to correct people, especially other people's children, for fear of being "cursed out" for making it our business.
Let's not allow our kids to grow up with this stigma of confusion attached to them. And as adults, we should not continue to perpetuate this mindset of thinking. Y'all feel me on this one, don't U? hey, have a great week! copyright pending
