advice / opinion column
This Urban Diva is satirical, edgey and comedic, but has solid opinions and advice. got issues? we all do, and ... what?
...why you don't need to apologize ...

I don't have much to say in the way of politics, but I tuned in to one of the debates recently and was a little taken aback at how one of the candidates had to publicly "denounce" a supporter due to the political and very public stance on many social issues, that particular supporter has taken. Now, y'all know the "Diva" doesn't gossip, so I'm not gonna mention any names, but, my thoughts were... Why? Why apologize for something you didn't ask for?

See y'all, you can't tell the next grown person what to think, say, or do. Oh, you can give a suggestion, subliminally or otherwise, but the determination and the seeing to completion of the deed or act, belongs solely to the individual, so I'm not with folks "tryin' to play on my emotions or intelligence", to make me sway my opinion about anything, and I'm sure most of you aren't either.

Let's put what I'm tryin' to say in layman's terms. For instance, you've got an issue you need to clear up, but you haven't been able to reach the one person that can help you, so, ...you keep calling back to the switchboard or receptionist of that company because the person you really need to talk to won't answer his or her phone. Why are you wearin' out the Operator? The operator "can not" make that man or woman answer his or her phone if they don't want to... that's why you are prompted to... "Please leave your message, after the tone". Not only that, are there really even more than about ten people left in the United States that do not have e-mail addresses? Can't you just e-mail the person? Most people check their e-mail more often than they look in the refrigerator.

The sooner it's realized everyone is responsible for his or her own actions, the better off we'll be, but we know this won't happen anytime soon. This whole -"Political Correctness" is so over-rated, and as bad as we need people to tell the truth, that will never happen, As you and I both know, people will always need someone or something to blame, when things don't correspond with their agenda. And the minute you go against the grain, take a stand, or do something different, you've got a problem, because somebody's feelings got hurt. Just as in the opening example I used. Someone didn't like whatever that supporter has had to say in the past, so regardless of fact that the candidate may have benefitted from the influence the supporter had to offer, "ol' boy" has apparently stepped on some toes, and so "the people" (everybody who ain't on this candidate's team) don't like it, therefore the candidate opted to distance themself from any association whatsoever. Hello, ... people can change (and more than their minds), ya' know... Hmmm, as a matter of fact, I know plenty of folks like that, don't you? And they will always have a "scapegoat" to blame, when the bottom line is, ... it wasn't 'goin' on like that for them to begin with, so the next time someone similar to this description starts to throw a "pity party" because things aren't going their way, ...tell them to throw away your invitation, because you'll be busy that night!
