The last time......
The 1956 season was the last time that two NY teams finished in first place. The Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 4-3 in the Fall Classic. For those of you too young to know, there were just two leagues, and no divisions. So if you finished first, you went to the World Series. In 1962, when our beloved Mets and the Houston Colt 45's came into existance, MLB split the teams into 4 divisions. Neither the Mets or the Yanks finished first at the same time. Even in 2000 when they met in the Series, the Mets were the wildcard team. The Cards took care of the Braves as we beat the Giants (another NY team that left in the late 50's).
