Entry for August 08, 2005
Watched the Mets on ESPN last night. A sweep of the Cubs has them squarely in the middle of the wildcard race. The Braves are still not clicking on all cylinders, so there is a toss up in the East. Even though the Mets are last, they are 3 games over .500 and only 6.5 back of first place! I seem to remember the Mets being 9 games out in 1969 at the beginning of August, and sweeping the then, first place Cubs, to go on and win the championship. Now, I am always optimistic when it comes to the Mets (even in losing seasons), but this looks a little like deja vu! The Mets have won 10 of their last 13. They are 4th in the wildcard standings, 3 games behind Houston. There's real excitement in Flushing Meadows again! In fantasy baseball, Cats #1 got shutout 9-0-1 with the tie coming in RBI's. Cats #2 lost 6-4. This team was close to the top, but has been fading of late falling to 6th place and 17 games behind the lead. Cats #3 tied 5-5. This team is in 8th place. The final team, Milwaukee Brewers, went 5-5. That's an achievement because I was behind at the beginning of the week and this was against the first place team. I am still in 5th place, 21 games off the pace. I probably won't finish first, but I'm looking to finish 3rd.
