Entry for June 20, 2007
President Bush vetoed a bill that would allow, nay compel, the use of federal funds to conduct embryonic stem cell research. Am I for medical research aimed at curing diseases and improving human life? I certainly am. Am I for medical research that requires the destruction of human life to accomplish the task? Certainly not.

1 Peter 2:13 - Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men

OK, God is telling us we should obey the laws laid down by our governmental authority. After all, if not for His allowing it to happen, they would not be in their position.

HOWEVER!

Acts 5:29 - Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!"

I do not presume to know the the mind of God, but His word gives us a good indication. Laws passed by men are intended to govern the affairs of men. But when those laws cross the boundary of governing the affairs of men to those of God, a Christian must choose to obey the Lord. Thankfully, in the United States, one does not face that decision point. Our government does a very good job of keeping the affairs of God out of the affairs of the government. I understand there is reasonable debate on "grey" areas and I am not stating that this bill, necessarily, crossed the line.

I DO know that I, and every person, was wonderfully and fearfully made by God.

Jeremiah 1:5 - Before I formed you in the womb I knew you

I, PERSONALLY, believe that an embryo is human life and the vetoing of this bill helps keep out government out of the affairs of God.

How did the opposition react? One of my favorite quotes:

"This is just one example of how the president puts ideology before science, politics before the needs of our families, just one more example of how out of touch with reality he and his party have become," Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.,

Senator Clinton, putting God before man is not putting ideology before science. If anyone is playing the political game with this....it is YOU!

I do not agree with a lot of what President Bush is trying to accomplish. However - if there is any elected official in all of Washington D.C. who is less influenced by opinion polls and the political scene than President Bush - I would like to know who that person is. President Bush acts out of his convictions and what he believes to be right. His opinion does not waver based on public opinion polls or on whether a particular opinion will affect his electability.

You, Madam Senator - are clearly the pot calling the kettle black.
