Entry for October 17, 2006
Well it seems that this past sunday I found my self sitting in the living room being just a bit jelouse. You see it was a wonderfully cool rainy day and Nightcrawler had come by to pick up Spearfox and Darkmoon for a day of caching. That is when I was realizing that some of my favorite caching excursions have happened on rainy days. This is one of those moments that I began to wish my kids were big enough that they could stay by themselves for atleast a couple of hours. (Darn that responsible parenting thing.) Every time in the past when I've headed out in the rain it seems you get that feeling please please stop raining but now that I think about it the rain is wonderful. Besides the obvious reasons that it replenishes the earth and helps to keep our water supply available it makes great for muggle free or almost free caching days. The first rainy caching day I remember was about 2 years ago. It was after a COG meeting and JPenn (now captain crash and the beauty queen from mars) , Darkmoon, Beatnik, myself and a few others headed out. That was one of the first times I had stumbled across an area that was frequented by transiants. This is also the same trip that Darkmoon took the picture that stayed on his profile so long of him in those hillarious neon green glasses and the blue and white umbrella hat. Little did I know that I was starting friendships that have become dear to me. The next rain caching adventure that I can remember was when Spearfox and I headed to the south side of town to do some caching. Halfway into the day it started to sprinkle and then pour. That is when I had another education on dealing with Oklahoma's Red Clay. Notice I said CLAY not dirt. Once the rain hits it it is clay. While I was doing the cache "Trip Wire" I kept picturing myself in one of those cartoons where you see a bar of soap strapped onto Tom's (Tom and Jerry) feet and his feet just keep running in circles and he gets nowhere. That was me running in my hiking boots with clay caked onto them going nowhere I wanted to go FAST! I also enjoyed the caching train trip to Fort Worth. Okiedoke and I were driving two rental cars full of Oklahoma cachers around in the rain all over Fort Worth Texas and it seems that for a large portion of the day it was misting and sprinkling. It was funny to watch everyone huddle together to sign the logs and try to keep them dry and legible. That is the trip where I learned just howfar I can actually jump to get across aditch and that isn't verry far. SPLAT! I guess the jist of this blog is don't let a little or in some cases alot of rain stop you from caching. That just makes the adventure more entertaining and the logs more fun to write!
