Mommyfried's Caching Blog
A blog to report the good and the ugly of caching in Oklahoma!
Entry for October 3, 2006
Why is that when you have a trip planned for almost a year when it finally comes time to leave things allways go crazy?  Well this weekend I am heading to sunny Florida for my cousins wedding.  I am flying into Fort Lauderdale and then driving up I-95 to Jacksonville.  I know that is a long drive but when you can take caching breaks on the beach who is going to complain.  I will be staying on the Navy's base for the weekend lucky me.  I've been told the hotel is on the beach so that should make it wonderful.  Then will have three days to drive/wonder my way back to Fort Lauderdale.  I hope to get several caches on this trip but I will be traveling with my mother.  I made a crucial error when I introduced her to geocaching.  The first cache I took her to was "Hair Raising Experience."  Now for the local OKC cachers you may have done this one or heard about it.  It has since been archived.  Although to this day it remains one of my favorite caches and I'm guessing that was over 900 caches and 2 years ago.  This cache was a night cache that just so happened to belocated not to far from a prisoner release location.  This was a fact that my mother was keenly aware of seeing that she had retired from the US Marshals.   I'm not sure now but I'm sure this one was origonally put out as a halloween cache and boy did it live up to the holliday.  I was still verry new to caching and this was my first night cache.   So in true caching style I think we took the absolutly hardest way in climbing over tons of broken up concrete chunks and had only a moderatly strong flashlight (compaired to the little sun I carry now).  Had a blast finding the cache which was hidden next to a well petrified/preserved dead dog and located inside a styrofoam head.  It was great!  Then as we were leaving the area the sirens at the release center started to go off.  That scared the jeebies out of my mom and she couldn't get back to the van fast enough.  I still like to tease her about that now.  Unfortunatly now she thinks I'm crazy for caching.  Now I did finally get her to go to a cache again and it was a nice safe one called "Noplace like Dome."  This one is located in our Oklahoma state capital.  I took her to find this one on her lunch break since she now is part of the Senate Staff.  She found this cache much more to her liking.  So now that she has seen two extremes in caching (and no I did not take her with me when I went rapelling for "The Castle" cache) I'm hoping she will be a good sport on this trip.  I am looking so forward to more beach caches.  This also means I don't know if I will be able to add anymore blogs over the next few days.  It all depends if the hotel has internet and if I have time.  I will also be looking forward to hearing from my caching friends when I get back.  I'm sure I will have atleast a couple of fun stories to report when I get back.  Have fun,

Mommyfried
