Now back to the snow in Geneva after our long voyage in Southern Africa.  Noticed on the plane home that Heidi Holland, a friend whom we tried to take out to dinner, became well know with her interview of Mugabe and her just published book 'Dinner with Mugabe' reviewed in 'The Economist'.  No wonder we couldnt get hold of her as the election in Zimbabwe takes center stage.

The photo above was taken on the border at Musina in South Africa and illustrates what we all know will happen.

The case of Mugabe illustrates how a revolutionary hero turns into a Stalinist and forms a very stable form of Government.  Perhaps the majority of countries are rules in this way from Burma to China to Russia to Venezuela.  Our model democracy, the United States, has let us democrats down severely with its Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, CIA approval of water boarding, spying on telephone communications, dismissal of The Hague Human Righst court plus who knows what else has been concealed in the name of 'protecting America'.

Off to Cambodia tonight to talk about turning black gold into human gold and how oil rich countries fail their populations in general.
